Welcome Everyone

i, Helen here….I hope I can give some words of
encouragement. About diaharria (sp. wrong) I never experienced
that before, but that is not to say that others have.
I find that I am more constipated than anything
else because of the high doses of iron that I take
each take. It took about a year and then things
started to work our better and I am back to regular bowel
movements each day. Pleasant afternoon conversation isn’t
it. WENDY do not get cold-feet now. Not after getting
as far as you have. So many people think that they
are just going to fail again. I know I felt the same
way. I would lose about 10 pounds and then it would
stop for a while and I would think…well that’s
it…no more weight loss. Then I would drop another 10
pounds and it would stop again. Pretty soon, all those

10 pounds add up and I reached my goal without even
thinking about it. If you eat correctly right from the
beginning (no milkshakes and mashed potatoes with gravy and
butter) you WILL lose the weight. Just remember to eat
your protein first, then your veggies and save the
fruit for last because it is the highest in sugar
content. For the first 6-8 weeks take things really slow
and give your stomach a chance to heal. You have a
life time of eating ahead of you…so you CAN take it
easy for this short period of time. Also, don’t dwell
too much on the pain aspect. Modern medicine is a
marvelous thing and there are wonderful pain killers out
there. All surgery hurts….but our bodies are the most
marvelous healing machines. You will all be back on your
feet in no time. Everyone should plan on walking a
marathon next summer. I was thinking about walking a 5K
myself this summer. Still a little chicken though. Just
keep in your mind….YOU ARE NOT GOING TO FAIL ON THIS
DIET….like my doctor said….THIS IS THE LAST DIET YOU WILL
EVER BE ON. Congratulations to all of you.

irst of all, I have been out here before and
Helen, I do not know if you remember me asking you about
the juicer and eating veggies like that. Anyway, you
mentioned in the recent message that eat the fruit last b/c
of the sugar?????? Natural sugar is good for
everyone and today I went to the pre op and they said the
juicer would be good and that natural sugar is ok. They
gave me a list of all the sugars you can have…ha!
dont plan on eating just anything.. READ the labels! I
went home immediately looking for high fructose
ingredients…lets just say my fridge is bare. I am so motivated
that I am going to follow the instructions to the T!
If you dont, you are only causing yourself more
pain! The first 7 days for patients at the Bariatric
Treatment Center is clear liquids, the day 7-20 are full

liguids, then purried food (eeekkkk) and then full food
approx after 40 something days. I am getting off track
here huh. My finders type as fast as my mind works.
Okay, the sugar thing. I still do not understand! Fruit
does not make us fat. Especially if you are exercising
but I realize that is not part of a regular thing for
most of us yet. I will have to ask the nutritionist
about this…And I am expected to get 64 oz of liquids
a day. My stomach will only hold 1 ounce at a time.
Am I missing something here. I was also told that
for the RNY, when you eat, chew the food so that it
is so small, it is the size a an m&m. And no more
eating and drinking for the folks out there. That is a
no no. They explained to me that if you do not chew
the food properly, it does not get down properly
which blocks off that access and you can imagine the
rest. Hey, I guess we will be working our jaws at the
same time. Anybody with advice on the fruit let us
    know.

on’t let anything I said sway you away from what
you doctor is advising. Yes, fruit is very good for
us. I believe my doctor was concerned with getting in
the protein requirement before I filled up on fruit.
You are doing exactly right following your doctors
advice. Everything you said in your message is things I
have heard other people say also…so you are
definitely on the right track. Good luck to you. As
always…listen to what others have to say, but follow your
doctors advice first and foremost. Helen
