Dear Jello:

e are all here to support you and you can count
on us at any time…..these are the things I did to
prepare for my surgery in 1997. Make a chart and weigh
yourself. You will want to know where you are starting
from. Take all your measurements, start with you neck
and work you way down. Don’t forget something like
your wrists and your ankles. Write down all your
clothing sizes, not forgetting even your ring and shoe
size. Then after you have done all that….(after you
get your insurance approval) go out and eat yourself
silly. Eat everything you have ever possibly wanted and
have never dared to eat before. I say to make sure you
get your insurance approval first, because you don’t
want to gain 20 pounds and then get turned down by the
insurance company. Anyway eat everything you want and DON’T

New member waiting for insurance approva

i! I’m Terri, awaiting insurance approval for
the gastric bypass. You all sound so supportive and
wonderful to talk to! Do you have any suggestions on how to
physically prepare for this surgery, like take extra
vitamins, learn to play the saxophone or take a picture of
my feet so that I will recognize them when I can
bend over to see them.(I need to keep my sense of
humor because inside I’m shaking like jello).
thanks
for any suggestions!!!

Thanks Helen

got approved for the surgery!!! and I am
thinking positive even though my beau is against it along
with my mom who is an RN. I need support and so are so
good through this avenue. What surgery did you have
done? I am having the Rouen Y (probably misspelled
that) and from what I hear, it is the best but we will
see. How long did it take for you to recover and yes,
I know everyone is different. I was told to start
taking vitamins before the surgery (what do i do after
the surgery? will they stay down? Also Iron pills are
good from what I have been told but again, i believe i
read somewhere you can only take certain pills. I have
to do a full physical next week and necessary tests
required for the surgery. Thanks for all your advice and
info now and hopefully in the future.

hope you get this before you go in for your
surgery. Remember to do these things before you go in.
Take your measurements. You will want these before you
start losing your weight. Also get a weight before your
surgery and then keep track of the date and new weight as
you go along. You will find these wonderful reminders
of how far you have come. Thanks for
listening…Helen

nly two more days and you will change your life
forever. I hoped you ate everything your little heart
desired this weekend. Drop us one little note before you
go in so we know you are thinking about us and we
will surely have you in our thoughts on Tuesday. Take
care and the best of luck to you….Helen

To Kelly and Nicole

irst off Kelly–I know you are looking forward
to your surgery but you would be crazy if you
weren’t apprehensive. You probably will regret the
surgery at first, just remember that this is your
hormones working overtime. Don’t be surprised if you do a
lot of crying also. As the weight starts dropping off
your outlook on the whole thing will change and the
world is going to be a more positive place.

To
Nicole: When you first have this surgery you can not eat
very much of anything. Liquids mostly and later comes
"soft foods." At first you wonder if you are ever going
to be able to eat anything at all. As time goes by
you return to eating what will become normal for you.
For me it’s a little of this and a little of that. No
more filling my plate two and three times. You will be

Thanks to everyone that has written

Sunday, January 12th, 2003

can’t possibly write to everyone and thank them
for there remarks about "my story" that I have been
willing to share with everyone. So I guess I will do it
here…"Thank You." I never really thought of myself as an
inspiration to anyone. I was just like a lot of you….I
couldn’t face one more day being "FAT" or face another
diet only to lose 5 pounds and then gain back 10. I
was tired of buying clothes in the summer and then
having to turn around and buy new clothes in the winter
because everything from the year before was too small. I
was tired of the snickers from kids in the mall and
the rude salespeople in stores. I hated wearing baggy
clothes and trying to feel sexy when I couldn’t even move
without breathing like I had run 100 miles. I was at the
end of my rope and finally took the bull by the horns
