Need a new moderator

Thursday, January 9th, 2003

veryone, I started this club a while back, and
have none stop computer problems since and have not
been able to keep it running like it needs to be. It
doesn’t take any real work, just someone that doesn’t
mind stopping by and checking messages and organizing
chats. If you are interested please let me know.

Investigating the different surgeries-HE

Wednesday, January 8th, 2003

ey everyone!!! I am 28yr old female who is
investigating the different surgeries and trying to make a
decision. I am solid on having surgery done, but have an
illness which could be complicated by possible side
effects that I’m not aware of, esp.. fatigue and dumping.
Could you contact me if you have any info. Roux n Y and
Vertical Banded Gastroplasty info is great. I’m also
curious about weight loss differences with the various
surgeries.Thanx and hope to chat soon. Pam

My experience with Roux-en-Y

Tuesday, January 7th, 2003

had the Roux-en-Y procedure in March of 1990. I
weighed 260 lbs and am 5′10". Previously, I had been 300
lbs about three years before that. I got down to
about 170 and then stopped losing and plateaued at that
weight. Everything was okay, except for a lot of fatigue
and occasional vomiting for about 4 years. Then I
started getting really tired and nauseous all the time. I
couldn’t even go through an 8 hour work day without
sneaking one or two naps under my desk. My doctor told me
for a year that it was only nerves and tried to
perscribe Prozac for me. Finally, after a year of being so
nauseous I couldn’t even ride in a car or I’d throw up,
they tested my blood for anemia. My red cell count was
4. Normal for a woman is 12-15. They put me in the
hospital and gave me two transfusions. After a week, they

Help!

Tuesday, January 7th, 2003

‘m scheduled for the Roux-en-Y procedure on
March 29th. I am 36, 5′11", and about 300 pounds.
Sometimes I am so excited about this surgery that I could
explode, and other times I feel like my execution date has
been set.

My questions are:

1. What are
the most important things I can do now to prepare for
surgery, the recovery period, and life after
surgery?

2. I have never had any kind of surgery. How much
help, if any, and what kind of help, if any, will I
need during the first few days after I return from the
hospital? For example, will I need help with bath or
shower? toilet? feeding my pets?

3. How bad is the
pain and how long will it last?

4. How should I
prepare my home for homecoming? For example, should I
pre-make some meals and freeze them? should I buy a shower

Prejudice After Surgery !

Sunday, January 5th, 2003

probably won’t get too much feedback since this
is such a quiet site, but I need a place to vent my
frustration at people that don’t understand the need for
weight loss surgery. After years of being tormented
because I was "fat and ugly" I am now facing the reverse
prejudice of only had the weight loss surgery because I was
too lazy to diet. Don’t these people realize that
this is not the miracle cure diet for lazy people. I
have worked the hardest on my weight problem after the
surgery they I ever did before and I wasn’t considered
lazy then. It is a constant struggle to keep
everything in line as far as proper eating and exercise.
This was no quick fix. If I hadn’t had the surgery, I
wouldn’t be in any position to exercise or anything else
because I probably would either be dead or at the very
