Thanks for being here!

Friday, February 28th, 2003

irst, I want to say thanks to all of you. I’m a
new member and have spent hours reading the many post
here. I had my first dr. visit on 3-23, and I was
approved last week. This was after I got involved and
called the insurance co. myself. I am scheduled for
surgery on May 11th at 8:00am. I’m excitied and nervous
at the same time. I have lived being overweight for
many years and can’t wait to see a new me imerge. I
haven’t told anyone in my family because I only want to
be positive about the surgery. With me being the
youngest and the largest of three children..I would hear
the ol you can do it if you try…like I havent tried
all these years. I feel really good about the dr. and
his staff that will be performing the surgery. You
guys have answered so many questions that I’ve had in

On the other side FINALLY

Tuesday, February 25th, 2003

have been out here…researching this
topic….got approval and had my surgery on 4-5-99. Today is
my first day at work….a little tough but hanging
in there. I had my surgery at the BTC in Belvidere,
Illinois. I see this site has been busy and that is a good
thing for all the pre ops. It really helps to prepare
yourself for as much as you can before the surgery. But,
no way is it easy! I went in on Monday 4-5 at waited
and waited…that was not the hard part…the hard
part was when you were in the holding area. Be
prepared that is all I have to say. That was the worst
part of the surgery for me. The first two days is also
pretty bad like everyone says…the pain does go away. I
had gas and the pain in the shoulders was too much
but it subsided. The first few days out of the

WELCOME HOME

Monday, February 24th, 2003

elcome home Wendy and Cheryl, I am glad to know
that you both are doing so well. I use to get sick in
the stomach when I drank and the doctor said that it
would pass that it was normal. He was right each few
days I could tell the difference. Sipping is the word
NO normal drinks at this point. I can now take
normal drinks at 7 weeks post-op. I still have trouble
with orange juice and any sweetened drinks, so I stick
to water and tea, I do drink 2 glasses of skim milk
a day as suggested by the dietian, and I have no
trouble with it. I was also told anything diet I could
have no restrictions on the nutra-sweet. I having a
little trouble typing I’ve been on night shift and I’m a
little uncoodinated during the day. Well glad to see you
are all home. God Bless to all.
Corinna

Wendy. It is nice to read your posts and they sound like
you are quite "up-beat" after your surgery. That is
so wonderful. Each day gets better and it is going
to be sooooo worth it down the road. I want to wish
everyone else a warm welcome back after their surgeries
also. Keep us all posted on your progess. Each pound
lost is one you will never see again. Take

i gang, I’m going to post as much as I can for
all the curious pre-ops and for the post-ops to
compare and share notes with me.
My trip home last
evening wasn’t as bad as I had anticipated (bumpy road,
ect.) it hurt a little but not really bad and the trip
was only 40 minutes so I survived my first hurdle. I
can’t tell you HOW BADLY I wanted to sleep in a bed
last night but no matter what contorsion I tried I
just couldn’t make it into bed. Our dang bed is just
high enough to be out of my reach and I can’t get on
my tippy toes right now…LOL! Poor hubby even went
and got the home made printer paper stand for me to
get up on and once in bed I looked like a twisted
pretzel, so looks like the recliner for me for a few weeks
any how!…..
I got absolutley no sleep in the

Brand New Post-Op Here

Saturday, February 22nd, 2003

i everybody! Just wanted to drop a note to tell
you that I made it through the surgery with flying
colors! I had open RNY on April 13 and came home last
night. Everything went well and as expected … no
complications except a tired butt … and I was up walking and
showering and feeling pretty good from the day after
surgery on. Glad to see you here Wendy we made it! My
sister Barb is doing great also … they’re gonna make
us the poster girls for bypass surgery at our
hospital because we did so well!

I’m very happy to
be on the other side and looking forward to the
challenges and successed ahead of me! Cheryl O.

Regarding the pre-op diet

Saturday, February 22nd, 2003

ood morning to everyone.
I seen the dietican
last Monday. She stated the reason for the liquid diet
before surgery is to help the liver to shrink and help
make the intestines to be more flexable. If this is
correct I don’t really know. I have to be on the diet for
2 weeks prior to surgery. she also gave me a diet
to follow for 6 months after surgery. The first 3
weeks you are on a liquid diet, with adding in sugar
free/low fat yogurt, and sugar free pudding made with skim
milk, and still on the Carnation Instant Breakfast or
Promote. The diet also gives you what times you are to
drink or eat. Was also given a grocery list of items I
will need for the first couple of weeks after surgery,
when to start the vitamin regimen. Because of me being
lactose intolerence, I am to use Lactaid milk or drops.

gall bladder but everything looks good….and no
staples! yippee!!
I’ll write more later when I’m not so
tired
take care…Wendy
Finally post op 4-14-99
open
