It’s good to be home

i gang, I’m going to post as much as I can for
all the curious pre-ops and for the post-ops to
compare and share notes with me.
My trip home last
evening wasn’t as bad as I had anticipated (bumpy road,
ect.) it hurt a little but not really bad and the trip
was only 40 minutes so I survived my first hurdle. I
can’t tell you HOW BADLY I wanted to sleep in a bed
last night but no matter what contorsion I tried I
just couldn’t make it into bed. Our dang bed is just
high enough to be out of my reach and I can’t get on
my tippy toes right now…LOL! Poor hubby even went
and got the home made printer paper stand for me to
get up on and once in bed I looked like a twisted
pretzel, so looks like the recliner for me for a few weeks
any how!…..
I got absolutley no sleep in the

hospital, maybe 20 minutes here and there but lets face it
folks, you just don’t "rest" in a hospital. So last
night when I finally made it to bed it was around 12:30
am and I nested down into the recliner with pillows
and my blankie (LOL) My sweet hubby stayed on the
sofa all night to make sure I was okay there. A little
side issue here, if you don’t mind…I don’t know
about the rest of you post-ops, but I’ve had nothing
but huge blood clots up my nose…sorry don’t mean to
gross anyone out here but it has really become a source
of discomfort for me and I can’t breathe after a
while. I’m using Vicks now to try and make it easier to
blow my nose…..did anyone else have this problem? I
had hoped this would clear up by now but its as bad
as the first day!
Anyway….this morning was
REALLY bad for me. This was the first night of getting
about 5 hours of straight sleep and by 6 am this
morning I had been without pain meds for 6 hours and I
was dying. I was so stiff I didn’t think I could move
again and the aching was the worst I’ve had since day
one. So was it worth getting 5 hours of sleep for the
pain and stiffness? well, the jury is still out on
that one, will have to let you know tomorrow…LOL!
The rest of day has consisted of short (and I mean
short) walks to the end of my building and sitting in
the warm sunshine and then back to the apartment. I
get out of breath almost immediately now and walk
very slowly but I know this will improve with time. I
also am not having much luck with passing the gas and
I know that is responsible for a lot of my pain
thats why I keep moving around.
This morning I
tried jello for breakfast (as the doctor suggested) and
it did not settle and got nasuea right away so I
didn’t finish that, then it dawned me that the doctor
said to try and stay away from nurta sweet stuff and
the jello had nutra sweet in it…duh! I need to read
those labels! Then I got really sick when I tried to
take my pain meds with too much fluid and trust me
pre-ops, when they tell you not to sip or glup too fast
(in the beginning) they mean it! I spent 20 minutes
doing deep breathing and gasping to keep from vomiting
up the pills! I am going to call the doctor’s office
in the morning as nothing seems to be settling with
me today. Don’t know what I’m doing wrong….This
afternoon hasn’t been too bad, I’m trying to really stretch
out the pain meds because I don’t want to get
addicted to them and they really knock me on my butt
afterwards. LOL…..
So, thats about it for now….I KNOW
each day will be better than the day before so I’m not
fretting over today…oh, and to boot (guys don’t read
this part! LOL) I started my dang period this
morning…12 days early! I thought I had that issue
beat!
Well, I hope I didn’t startle any of you pre-ops, it
was not my intentions, just trying to be open and
honest…maybe some of you post-ops will just think I’m a big
baby…maybe I am, never had surgery before so I didn’t know
what to expect either.
Hope everyone is well! Take
care and God bless.
Wendy…Clearfield,

ear Wendy, just out of curiosity do you know why your doctor does not want you
to have nutra sweet? does any one else know anything about this?..Annie…….

i Annie, this is just what my doctor states. I’m
sure there are MANY opinions about this subject with
each surgeon. My surgeon, Dr. G. Goodman, states that
the body cannot identify sugar as opposed to sugar
substitutes and neither have any food value to them. He
perfers we get calories from natural sources such as
fruit and very limited with those. We will of course
get some natural sugars with the juices we drink but
I have to drink them diluted by 10 parts that any
amount of sugar in them isn’t going to bother me.
I
was also told by my surgeon the aspertame (nutra
sweet, etc) is not good for me in any form so I need to
try and stay away from it. Now this could just be for
my first 90 days of post-op care and since I’m only
    4 days post-op I’ll learn much more a little

    later….sorry I couldn’t tell you any more about this…but I’m
sure there are many other post-ops here that have a
multitude of info on this subject. Take care…
Wendy
