New to list - welcome suggestions

Dear Gang,
I just found this support group
today and have been reading past posts. It gives me
hope that there is life after morbid obesity. I saw a
surgeon today and he gave me the facts about what I could
expect from the surgery. I was hoping for laproscopic
cause open surgery scares me to pieces, but I’m over
the limits for laproscopic. I’m in the low 400’s and
am 47 years old. Have lost and gained several times
like so may of ya’ll. Hypertension, bad knees, some
breathing problems are primary problems at this time. On
paper, my cholesterol, triglys, etc. are magnificent and
on paper I’m "healthy as a horse". In reality, I
weigh closer to a horse, but sure don’t feel healthy.
I’ve got Blue Cross / Blue Shield (actually Blue
Choice). Has anybody out there had any experience with

getting approval from them? My primary care doc. is
willing to write a strong explanation trying to persuade
them. Don’t know whether to be excited or
scared.
Would like any advice, thoughts, especially from women
who have lost (or need to loose) 200+ pounds. Thanks
for anything in advance. Oh, I’m a Texan - live in
the Dallas area.
Yours truly, Dragonmary (nickname
given to me by friends who love medieval stuff).

i too have Blue Shield, but Major Risk. They
approved me in three weeks. I had a variation on the
vertical gastric bypass done call the Fobi Pouch done two
months ago. I lost 40 pounds already……120 to go.
Even with that small amount gone, i have noticed a
    change in my life already.
Don’t give up
George
