update
Today made exactly 4 weeks since I had my open
RNY. I have lost down from 235 to 205. I am happy with
that as its nice to know those pounds I will not be
gaining back. I am still feeling rather weak…taking a
nap every day. Staying in the house way too
much..just cant take this heat. But all in all I feel I am
doing ok with this. The only problem I have had is
being nauseated and getting the dry heaves…I am still
trying to deal with it and waiting on it to pass. I know
I can not be feeling perfect after only 4 weeks so
for now I am taking one day at a time!!

IcanB2,
I am sorry you are feeling so
nauseated. I hope it passes soon! Congratulations on your
weight loss. WAY TO GO! I can’t believe that you have
been out of surgery for four weeks now! It seems like
you were just going in yesterday. I still can’t
believe that I have been out of surgery for
17
days… Good luck and take care of
yourself!

Lisa
RNY 7/13/99
Pre-op 304#
Post-op 276#

Like Wendy it sure is nice to see all the
newcomers here. Welcome and best wishes with the journey of
preparing for surgery and the recovery afterwards. I guess
I can tell a bit about my experience as well. I had
my open RYN on July 1 weighing in at 235 at only
5′2". To date I have now lost 55 pounds. My surgery was
pretty tough in my opinion. Besides the bypass I had the
gallbladder and gallstones removed…and then my spleen got
nicked and would not stop bleeding lost that too. This
is a possibility and I am told it doesnt happen
often…but my luck!! Also…my epidural did not take…that
left me in terrible pain…yes I am a baby as well but
I know pain when I feel it and that was some
PAIN!!!
But got home only a day late and recovery started. I
was extremely weak…I felt helpless! I have such a
wonderful husband…this man waited on me hand and foot. I
love him so much and can never repay all he did for me
not to mention loving me as each pound packed on
during our 23 year marriage. But anyway…the strength
comes back but my eating experiences was not good at
first…I never puked but had dry heaves so much I just
wished I could have. I was extremely nauseated…and
quite honestly have just got past that maybe in the
last 2-3 weeks and still get that way on occasion. Its
getting very close to the 3 month mark for me and I can
just now honestly look back and say…It wasnt so bad.
So for those of you that have a bit of a problem at
first…Hang in there…its gonna get better!!! I know I am
rambling here…Dont post often. Just wanted to say also
that I have not bought any clothes as of yet because I
knew none of the summer stuff would fit next summer so
I have just been letting them hang ( what a
different feeling ) Anyway…my birthday is the 3rd and I
dont plan to go wild but do plan to buy a few nice
outfits to get me thru the winter as this is the stage I
am told my loss will now start slowing down. I’m
just anxious to see what size I can get into now. Well
guess I need to make one final major point that I left
out. It concerns support. To this day no one other
than my daughter in my family knows I had this
surgery!! I live in another state…Didnt want to listen to
it…the try this or have you done this. My friends here
know what I"ve done. When I go visit my family they
just think I am on a very strict diet…and thats
TRUE. So I guess thats about it…Hope no one fell
asleep! Take care….Debra

Just finished catching up on tons of posts here.
Happy to see so many new folks. Glad to hear some of
you have already had your surgery and best wishes to
those of you still in the process of getting the ball
rolling. Thought I would put in an update. Most of you
dont know me. I have had contact with a few of you
however. I am Debra from the Little Rock, Arkansas area. I
had my open RNY exactly 9 months ago today. My
insurance is Tri-care Prime. So just for a brief back
ground on myself. On July 1st when I checked into the
hospital for my surgery I weighed in at 235 and I am a
short 5′2". I personally really did not have any
medical problems at the time of my approval other than
the typical aches and pains and I was in physical
therapy for a knee problem which I still have! After
reading so many other posts of denials I feel so blessed
that this was possible for me. I am very thankful as
well. Anyway I am 5 pounds from my goal but have been
at this weight now for a month. My husband does not
want me to lose one single pound more. So if I never
lose the last 5 pounds I am very happy with where I
am. I feel at this time I am eating rather
well….variety wise as well as portions. I can even eat sugar in
moderate amounts…shhh…dont tell my doctor that one!! I
certainly do not mean for this to sound as it was all
easy…it wasn’t. I lost my spleen due to this surgery. I
too like Laura still to this day dont know when if
ever I will have the energy level prior to my surgery.
For months and months I was so nauseated the thought
of eating was horribe. My hair loss was very
extreme. I mean if it hadnt stopped when it did…I was at
the "I gotta go wig shopping stage" I wont bore you
with every little down fall of this surgery as I know
most of you are researching prior to making the
decision. Of course its took a very L O N G time for me to
finally be able to say this. But yes…I would do this
again. However I truly do wish I would have lost the
weight on my own…but at age 42 I had ran out of diets
to try…ran out of will power…I felt I had to do
this before I too was on obese person with numerous
medical problems due to the excess weight. So again…I
am extremely thankful I had insurance that covered
this. I guess thats enough at this time. Everyone hang
in there…Good luck to you all!!!!

I got out of the hospital today. Everything went OK. I feel alot,of pressure
in my abdomen. The doctor said that is was normal. I have already lost 9 1/2
lb. since Wednesday. I am happy about that. Well, I have to get some sleep.
Talk to everyone soon.

send me mail because I don’t know if i will be able to answer it all. See ya

I was approved as of September 25th to have gastric bypass. Scheduled surgery
for January 2nd (didn’t have it scheduled sooner because I’m in my final
semester of my b.s. in business.) Saturday got a new insurance card with a
letter stating that a certificate of coverage would follow. I called my
insurance co. today to ask about exclusions…Guess what! Obesity-related
surgeries ARE excluded, completely. My approval was a slap in the face. They’d
pay as long as I’d had it done prior to October 1st.
I’m sure I’m going to get mad just as soon as I get done crying.

Hello All,
An update from me..Yesterday I got up at the crack of dawn drove into Colorado
Springs and proceded to have a sonogram of my liver, and an echo cardiogram of
my heart..my ribs were killing me from all the dang pushing . I then had ALL DAY
to putz around so i went to my favorite cafe, enjoyed a bowl of the best french
onion soup, and then i went shopping of course..lol. I then went to TWO movies
cause Im not much of a shoppper as I thought I was..lol . ( Basic with John
Travolta..HOTTIE!..movie good and Tears of the Sun with Bruce Willis..ANOTHER
HOTTIE! and very sad but good movie..) Then I still had three hours to
kill..YIKES~So I went over the hosptial and enjoyed a healthy hospital food
dinner..Turkey salad and potatoes..yum! I then went back to my van and (yes it
has a tv for the kids..but i was grateful for it!!) watched Survivor..Then off
to sleep lab to test me for sleep apnea…WHy pray tell do they call it SLEEP
STUDY..i didnt feel like i could get any sleep let alone feel like I had when i
left this am..lol. They said they dont believe that I have a serious enough case
for them to make me sleep with that SCARY machine all the time, but they might
want to give it to me while Im coming out of anthesia?? YIKESYUCK!! I
immediately called my surgeons office and told them I have completed my
missions…lol. So i have my final consult with the surgeon scheduled for April
15th..YEAH!! well..ab ab ab ..Thats’ All Folks!! ~ Erin

padding because sitting through Piglet’s Big Movie just about killed me! *Grin*
But to make it through 2 movies..*grin* I want to see Basic myself one day.
April 15th can’t come soon enough for you.trust me, I understand that feeling.
Take care and good luck!
