Cashmire

Saturday, May 31st, 2003

Hey there! Way to go! What’s it like to be one
week post op? Are you thinking about food all the
time? Most important, where did you go to find a binder
for bigger people? I went to wal mart to find a back
support thingy but they were too small, and probably not
the right thing, since I’m not real sure what I’m
looking for. 21 days to go till my surgery!
Woohoo!
~Laura~

ANXIETY ATTACK!!!!

Saturday, May 31st, 2003

I just posted my first message yesturday - I have
managed to read just about all the previous messages
posted in an attempt to give me the courage to go
through with this. I am 5 days away from my surgery and
am PANICKED!!! After months of discussing this with
my husband, he picks today to wake up and tell me
his reservations about me doing this. I definately do
NOT need this right now as I a nervous enough. I have
never has a second thought about living with this for
the rest of my life - my biggest fear is the surgery
itself - I have never been under except when I was 5 and
had my tonsils taken out. Any words of encouragement?
My mom has decided to come to be with us after to
help - She lost 30lbs. with WW and doesn’t understand
why I can’t…. I have tried to tell her that 30 lbs.

I’m just starting……

Saturday, May 31st, 2003

Hi everyone, I’m just starting out and have
enjoyed all your posts. My name is Trudy, 49, my BMI is
54, I’m 5′3 and 302 lbs. I live in Florida and I’m
planning on having my surgery with Dr Champion in Atlanta,
GA. I have done a lot of reading both good and bad,
but feel this is my last and only way to get control
of my weight. My husband died 4 years ago and I have
gained 100 pounds in the past year, I have been heavy
most of my life and like all of you have tired every
diet you can think of and did pretty good with them as
long as I stayed with it. But like we all know once
you stop the weigh comes back plus a lot more of it.
With my weight at 302 lbs and I can hardly move, my
body hurts and I have become a home bound person,
which I hate. I love the beach and being outdoors but

Urgent!!!

Saturday, May 31st, 2003

I just found this club in my search for all the
information I can absorb before my surgery. I have been
approved - in 3 days from my insurance company which must
be some kind of record - I am scheduled for surgery
next Tuesday - Sept. 28th. I just found out yesturday,
so that gives me all of a week to REALLY prepare
myself for this. I started researching types of surgery
4-5 months ago and had a hard time finding a surgeon
within my insurance network. I has a consult with
Bariatric Treatment Centers in IL. I was denied for an out
of network referral as there are surgeorn in my area
which do the procedure. I went to a consult and after
being set on the Roux-en-Y procedure, he talked me into
the VBG. Apparently the Dr. who founded the VBG is at
the University of Iowa and that is the procedure

Hello everyone. I am brand new here! I have come
to learn all I can, before I can make a choice. My
sister told me some things. She is booked for surgery in
April. I am really considering it. Like many here, I
have tried every diet in the book. And failed at all
of them.

Ann’s back!

Thursday, May 29th, 2003

Hi everyone,
I’m baaaaack! I had my surgery
(open RNY) done on September 10…. got out of the
hospital on September 15 (my 50th birthday) with a slight
case of pneumonia. Had a few draggy days at home and
then suddenly started feeling better and better. I
can’t believe it, I am thinking about going back to
work next week!

I think one of the reasons I am
feeling so well is that I actually have less pain than
before the surgery. All through the summer my arthritis
was so out of control I just hobbled around like an
old lady. I guess the combination of the pain meds
for surgery and the long rest reduced the
inflammation significantly so I am really walking better now
than before surgery.

I did have a binder and I
wore it for the first week at home. Just wear it for

Are Gallstones a side-effect?

Thursday, May 29th, 2003

Hi,
I’m new. Will gallstones be a side effect
if I choose this operation? I’ve been doing a lot of
research and I came across this point of possibility.
Anyone have this problem due to the gastric
bypass?

Tim

Almost there

Want to have the surgery but have a lot of
questions. For those who have already been through the
surgery. I need to know was there a lot of pain during
recovery, what about scare tissue and whats the general
recovery time? Your input is greatly appreciated. Thanks

My Consultation Visit and after

Tuesday, May 27th, 2003

I waited for nearly 3 months for my consultation
visit on Sept. 3. After visiting with the surgeon,
things look like I will be on my way after the insurance
authorization. Very exciting!
I followed up with the Dr.
office on Sept. 8 and they told me everything was being
compiled and would be faxed to the insurance on Sept. 10.
Yeah!

Then I found myself wondering at what step the
insurance company was at, especially after reading some of
your stories……couldn’t wait (although my husband
said I was being to impatient)so I called. What do you
think happened? "No, sorry, we don’t have any
information on you. But, usually the preauthorization dept.
contacts us, so you might want to try giving them a call".
I called the Dr. office and "Yes, the information
was faxed to the pre-authorization dept on Sept. 10".

Hello, I’ve been gone awhile

Monday, May 26th, 2003

Hello to everyone, I have been gone away from the
computer for a couple months. My mother has not been well
and I have been there taking care of her. I am listed
under a different name because I forgot the other one
and had to rejoin the group. My surgery was March 3,
1999, I weighed 240lbs. I now weigh 149lbs; 91lbs loss
from a size 24 down to size 10. I can’t believe the
difference 91lbs makes. I chaperone the high school band and
I haven’t seen some of the people since football
season last year and I surprised when some of them came
up to me 1-2 hours into the game on Friday and said
they didn’t realize who I was and congradulated me on
how well I looked. I hope to get back in touch with
all the people that supported me during my first few
months after surgery, and hope to be able to support all
