Hungry anyone?
I know that the surgery was to help control my
appetite, but I am never hungry. It is hard to keep my
calories and vitamens and protein down, when during my
first bite, I feel totally full. Is this my mind
playing tricks on me?
I know I am still new to this. I
will be a month post op in a few days. Any
advise?
Lisa
RNY 7-13-99
Pre-op 304
Post-op 267

Dear Lisa:

You are really quite early in
your recovery yet. I never felt hungry either at
first. Eating became the last thing on my mind. It
wasn’t even a pleasurable experience for me. Now that I
am 2 years post-op I find that the normal hunger
pangs have returned. The only difference now is that it
only takes a little amount of food to satisfy those
hunger pangs. Give yourself time. As far as the protein
and vitamin intake…I found that my vitamin pills
every morning and night help me to get in the daily
requirements. I heard someone mention once that egg whites was
a good source of protein. I might be wrong though.
I was never told about the increase in protein
intake, so I am kind of stupid about that aspect. Good
luck. Your weight loss is wonderful. Helen

Hi Lisa, You might consider Bugs Bunny Chewable
vitamins with iron, they come sugar free, and really don’t
taste too bad. And possibly freezing the protein drinks
in small portions to eat a little at a time. Also I
found that I have to have something to drink almost all
of the time because it takes a long time to get the
required amounts down. I still am not hungry most of the
time and I am now 2 months post op. don’t get
discouraged. We are all going through the same things. Good
luck. Rhiannon D.
