Spazzin’ out…

Thursday, July 31st, 2003

Well, I had my Pulmonary Function test, chest
x-ray, and ABGs done today and I also received a call
from my regular Dr. It seems that I am extremely
hypothyroid (the kind that makes you heavy, of course) so he
said even if I get the surgery, I need to take meds
the rest of my life. Also, I have to have a test on
Monday by Nuclear Medicine to check for tumors and
things on my thyroid gland–just what I need. Well, I
told him I was still going thru with the surgery, and
he needed to hurry and get me on the meds I needed
to be on. I cld Dr. Fabito’s office and they said
being Hypothyroid won’t affect the surgery, but MY Dr.
said that if I didn’t start taking the meds, I
wouldn’t recover as well. (argh). Just more to stress
over. In addition, my Pulmonary Test didn’t go very

Made that first step yesterday…

Wednesday, July 30th, 2003

Hi everyone,<br> I’m Tim. I finally made the
first appointment with my surgeon and went! Dr. Ali out
of Port Huron, MI was very nice and very warm. He
was quick, but answered every question I had. Yes, he
had a fatality about 15 years ago on one of his
patients. He said that he shouldn’t have ever gone through
with the procedure because she was 67 and had had
heart problems and leg problems. She died of a blood
clot to the lungs from her legs. The patient had
insisted and signed every waiver. Apparently it was worth
the risk to her. <br> Anyway, I’m collecting my
mandatory items and getting them in. I go to the Nov. 20th
support meeting in Flint, so that should be a good time
to meet people who have had Dr. Ali’s surgery and
what it is like. Oh, it is the RNY version.<br>

Getting scared..

Tuesday, July 29th, 2003

Hi, guys. I just thought I’d write and tell you
all how I’m doing. My surgery is 11/22 and I have
just had my pre-surgery blood work & EKG today.
Tomorrow I have a Pulmonary Function Study, Blood Gases,
and Chest X-Ray. I fly up to St. Louis on Thursday,
11/18. Then my first appt. with the Dr. is 11/19 (I
guess that’s when I talk to the psychologist and the
nutritionist and everyone). What I’m scared about is actually
traveling up there by myself and finding someplace to stay
and all that–I’ve never been anywhere by myself. My
husband is coming up, but not until Saturday, 11/20. Does
anyone have any suggestions?<br><br>Thanks,<br>Tammy

Hair Loss

Friday, July 25th, 2003

HI<br><br>I’m having wls the 15th of this month,
and I keep hearing about people having a tremendous
amount of hair loss after the surgery. I’d love to hear
what you all have to say about that, and if you’re
taking a certain kind of vitamin(s) to prevent this
happening. Any input would be great!
