I had biliopancreatic diversion. Basically I had
a partial gastrectomy (instead of stapling my
stomach off into two compartments, the doc removed the
excess and just left me with a small pouch. Who really
needs that extra compartment anyway?) Also, the first 2
sections of my intestine were bypassed (duodenum and
jejunum). So i'm left with my ileum attached to my new
stomach pouch. Since these sections of intestine have
been bypassed, I don't have to watch my fat intake.
Very little fat is absorbed with this procedure. The
complication that this presents is malabsorption of
fat-soluble vitamins. Which is not really a complication if
you take the prescribed high dose vitamins as
directed.
