My name is Melissa I am 27 yrs old and in good health. I’m
considering the lapband surgery with Dr. Marema from US Bariatrics. I
am on here looking for support and education, for I am on the fence
right now. Anyone who is familar with that group please e-mail me. My
insurance shot me down so I obtained financing through care credit

for about 14,000. That in itself scares me! I have a obsession and a
love of food and it also scares me to think of losing my best friend,
food. I have been unsuccessful on diets and maintaing weight loss, in
fact I dieted myself up to almost 200lbs! I am looking for a permanet
solution for this problem. I have some questions about the port and
the procedure itself. I guess I want to gather from your experiences
if this is something for me. I have utmost confidence in my doctor
but am scared of the life changes that I may experience. I would
appericate any one who has the time to e-mail me so I don’t take up

Hi Cathy, I saw your message posted and wanted to
write to you about the surgery. I weighed 541lbs when I
decided to have the surgery done. I went into the
hospital on October 7 and as of today I have lost 95lbs. I
lost 50lbs in the first 3weeks. I have felt so much
better and feel that it was the best thing I have ever
done in my life. It still is a daily struggle and I
feel I will always struggle with food, but now I feel
that I have control - for the first time. I hope you
decide to have the surgery. It will change your life.

This surgery is a good thing, but it is also a very personal decision.
There are many things to consider, so do your research wisely. I wish you the
best of luck. :)

Cathy, at your age and weight, you have nothing
to lose except 300+ pounds by having this surgery.
You need to remember what it is like to live. I had
surgery 6-7 weeks ago and have lost 40 pounds. Its a
start and I feel wonderful. Food no longer is my
driving force. DO IT!!!! Dont walk , run to your doctor
and begin a whole new life. Your only regret will be
that you didnt do it years ago. Also, the more weight
you have to lose, the quicker you lose it. I weighed
335 and had lost 20 pounds before even leaving the
hospital. You would probably lose 60 pounds the first month
alone.
