Just in the thinking phase
Hi to all the wonderful people in the club. My
husband and I are both thinking very heavily on having
surgery done to help rid us of this overweight lifestyle.
We have both been heavy from childhood and want to
be around to see our grandchildren when they come.
That will be quite some time as our kids are only 10 &
12.
We are going to call the Bariatric center in our
area to make an appointment for a consultation. I am
nervous because I do not like feeling nausiated and from
reading many posts that seems to be the number 1 thing
while healing. I am determined not to go to another
weight loss clinic that gives out pills or hard to
follow diets. I have tried everything but use food for
comfort (which is like programmed into my brain) and now
I have ballooned up to 240lb with a height of 5′1′.
I am very uncomfortable with the way I look and
feel. My blood pressure has been rising and my joints
hurt from carrying so much weight.

Sorry to
have rambled I just would like some
advice/encouragement to help me thru this decision process. Maybe my
insurance company will decide for me. We are not well off
and are one step ahead of our shut off notices just
trying to make ends meet since my husband is laid off
from work. As Laura said in her website - Murphys Law
applies to me too. Thanks for listening.
Nancy

Dear Nancy: Congratulations on your decision to
look into this surgery. It can change you life
forever. The biggest thing before and after you have the
surgery is your "mind-set." You have to realize that your
lifestyle is going to change forever. As long as you
realize it is for the better….you can work through the
ups and downs of this surgery. If you change your
eating habits you might not ever experience nausea. I
only experienced it once when I ate a pancake. You
will learn fast that bread products fill you up too
fast. You will have sad days and will feel like doing
nothing but crying. Then comes the day when you put on a
size 10 and all those sad days fly out the window. You
can go to the mall or go through a holiday and not
have to think about "what can I have to eat!" In fact,
my husband gets so upset with me now, because
stopping to eat is the last thing on my mind. Give me a
diet pepsi and I am good to go. Lunch and dinner can
now be a lunchable. (That’s one lunchable for two
meals!) As long as your mind-set is in perspective before
and after the surgery….you and your husband will
make out fine. If you go into the surgery thinking
about sabatoging it and eating anything you want….you
better rethink it. But you sound like you are on the
right path….so make that appointment as soon as
possible. The only thing waiting for you is a new life.
I’ve done the Diet Center’s too. I got tired making
them rich and I was still overweight. Thanks for
listening….Helen

Surgery: 8-14-1997 @ 255 lbs.
Today: 1-2-2000 @ 146

Here Here!! Great advice Helen!!! I second that!
I didn’t read your response when I replied… you
know I am so excited about the changes in my life I AM
JUST LOVIN IT!!!!!!!! I also need THREE meals to eat a
weight watchers (or similar) frozen meal! Imagine before
I ate one with a salad and usually added some rice
or other type of past to help make the meal
"complete" hahahahahahah
Cindy

Helen,
I’m glad to hear that things can get
better. I will heed your words of advice and continue on
with my making the appointment. I know that I can
weather any storm. I can’t wait to wear something other
then a size 22. I’m dreaming of a size 16!
Nancy
