Cindy,
I had my surgery 1 November and have
and had the same problem concerning water. I got over
it by putting a little fruit juice mixed in with my
water and got my water down that way. I also used
sugarless ice pops to be sure I stayed hydrated. I still
cannot drink large amount of water plain, but I can sip
it slowly throughout the day. I've also mixed diet
ginger ale with my water in order to get it down. The
weight comes off faster with the additional water being
placed in the body. Good luck, let me know if it works
for you. Did you catch 48 hours on tv tonight? It had
all about gastric bypass--seems we are pioneers in
the field of weight loss.
Linda

Michelle: I have heard that this is very common.
Luckily for me, my caretaker after surgery also had the
surgery herself, so she knew what I was referring to when
I told her I just couldn't bring myself to drink
water. It felt like a stone had been dropped into my
stomach. I also was a heavy water drinker and missed
standing at the sink downing glass after glass of water.
This didn't help my kidneys at all because I wasn't
taking in enough water and was prone to kidney
infections. After two-1/2 yrs...it has gotten better. I can
sit and drink a whole glass of water but have to take
it slow. You are NOT crazy even though your doctor
says so. You are experiencing just what everyone else
is. I am surprised you can drink Crystal
Light....anything with any kind of sweetner usually makes me

nauceous. What ever way you can get the water down.....go
for it. Your body still needs it and even though it
is hard...try to get that water down. Take
care....Helen

Me too.. I used to LOVE to gulp down lotsa water.
I now sip.. The first two weeks... water tasted
really NASTY for me. I don't know if it was a side
effect from the surgery or what, but that finally
dissapated. Thank goodness!
I now can drink about 1/2 a
glass at a time.. but not gulp-drinking.. more like
moderate drinking.
I do, however get REALLY full from
just drinking.
I drink my tropicana 100% no pulp
o.j. every morning. I have soy milk with my lunch and
I drink water the rest of the day. I don't like the
flavor of coffee or tea anymore and never really did
like soda pop, so Water's for me. :)
--Lisa Boone

Michelle,
My only problem with drinking water
is I can't drink it like i had before! If I try to
drink out of a bottle or gulp it too fast I feel what
you are talking about but I know it is from the gas
or "air" I am swallowing when I am attempting to
drink! I also miss being able to drink down a huge
amount of water! I am now only a sipper... no matter
what I drink!
Good Luck...
Cindy aka
