very very new….

I have been reading the messages posted here..my
doctor suggested I check into this type of surgery
because i have bad knees…surgery on my knee helped
some…but its not 100% I don’t know where to start…I have
a thousand questions…but am shy…this isn’t
something i am proud of…but can’t help it either…it is
time to do something about it tho..this is the first
time I have ever talked openly about my weight
problem…I just grinned and took it before…after reading
some of these posts…I am thinking there may be a
light at the end of my tunnel…I surely hope so…I
guess the first thing is getting up the nerve to call
the doctor and see what he can do for me…thanks for
listening to me…and I am open to any suggestions..or
comments

Lizzabeth…. I know the TV shows call this
surgery "drastic" but it really isnt. Its a few weeks of
discomfort, a new way of eating and then a whole new life.
I dont know one single person who has regretted it.
Im 8 weeks post op and THRILLED at the prospect of a
new life. I even enrolled full time at a local
college to get a degree in psychology. Its something Ive
always wanted to do, but my weight kept me from it
(fitting in the seats, being too exhausted, not being able
to get around real well). Now Im down 60 pounds and
am half way through my first class. i am so happy,
and energetic and love when people comment on my
weight loss. Its a good feeling to actually know it only
gets better. i have 100 pounds to go and no doubts
that ill make it.

Hi there!
Well in some aspects I agree with
"stclaire2000" but in one large part I don’t… this surgery IS
drastic… but for problems that we deal with… like early
death, suffering through life (instead of living it) and
all the other health concerns as well as
psychological concerns… it is also MUCH needed! I had my
surgery 8/2/99 and have lost 87 pounds and am looking to
continue this downward trend. But if I stopped losing
weight tomorrow, it would be okay too as I have already
increased my longevity on this earth by losing all the
weight that I have and thus it increases my exercising
capabilities… which also helps to increase my time on this
earth… so all in all the drastic surgery was well worh
it! But I would never want to lighten the severity of
the surgery because I do feel that there are

unscrupulous doctors out there doing surgery to anyone that
may be obese as long as they have the "fee"!!!! And
it is the caring doctors out there that make sure
you fit the criteria, the psychological profile, and
can handle the initial health risks as they work
feverishly to make your number one health risk (the weight!)
go down that make this an option for the thousands
out there that are in need! I say "thank you" to all
those fine doctors, and "Kiss off" to all the bad ones!
I hope that more people researching this surgery
would find great sites like this.. and not the moron
sites like "dietconsultant" posted the other
day!

God’s Peace everyone!
Cindy
Open RNY
