A new life!!

Saturday, September 20th, 2003

Hello my sisters (and brothers) in surgery. Had
my operation 1 November and am down 50 lbs. I’m also
into excercizing five times a week and can really
notice the difference in my life. It’s not just the
losing of weight, which is great, it’s literally a whole
new life. I don’t know if I could have made it
without this group. Thank you one and all. Oh, by the way
I had trouble with handling water alone so I simply
mix it with a small amount of fruit juice or diet
ginger ale and I can get down at least 8 glasses daily
by sipping it throughout the day. I’ve already had a
plateau for a week and I noticed that consuming more
water and doing more excercizing got me through it.
Anyway, it is a new life, one that is truly the best. Any
hesitations out there as to having it, don’t wait. It means

Help in Illinois

Thursday, September 18th, 2003

Hi! Just joined the club, and was wondering if
someone could put me in touch with a Doctor that performs
this surgery. I went to see one in Chicago, but he
said I wasn’t heavy enough. I am almost 5′6" tall, and
close to 220 lbs. I am still relatively healthy, but I
can certainly feel the effects of my weight. I have
tried all sorts of diets, lost weight, then gained it
all back plus more….same song we all sing, I
suppose. I don’t know why I have to have my health in
jeopardy before a doctor will take me seriously! Believe
me, at 220 lbs, it is only a matter of time before my
body starts to suffer. I already have trouble
sleeping, high cholestrol, swollen ankles. Could someone
please let me know of somewhere in Illinois where I can
go for this surgery? I live in the Chicago land

I have been reading the messages posted here..my
doctor suggested I check into this type of surgery
because i have bad knees…surgery on my knee helped
some…but its not 100% I don’t know where to start…I have
a thousand questions…but am shy…this isn’t
something i am proud of…but can’t help it either…it is
time to do something about it tho..this is the first
time I have ever talked openly about my weight
problem…I just grinned and took it before…after reading
some of these posts…I am thinking there may be a
light at the end of my tunnel…I surely hope so…I
guess the first thing is getting up the nerve to call
the doctor and see what he can do for me…thanks for
listening to me…and I am open to any suggestions..or

Michelle: Looked over your pictures. Even after
this short time frame I can see an amazing difference.
I would love to see you in that shirt a year from
now. It will be falling down over your shoulders onto
the floor. Now that would be a cute picture wouldn’t
it. Keep up the good work…….keep going…..Helen

Ruth Anne on 48 hours

Sunday, September 14th, 2003

I was so touched by this young girl. I even
talked to God about her. Hopefully, someone will direct
her to this website and she can see that there are
people out here that care about her. Ruthie, if your out
there….. call on us…we all want to help and wish you the
very very best. Good work on losing 105 pounds in 3
months!!!!!

48 HOURS

Sunday, September 14th, 2003

Watched the program on 48 Hours and was pleased
to see them do a story about gastric by-pass
surgery. 20/20 also had a program about the day in the
life of an Obese person, but I opted for 48 Hours. I
got a little upset when they kept referring to the
surgery as "drastic." Dr. Fobi seemed to put the reporter
in his place though when he said, "Compared to
what." Since diets don’t work…..surgery can not be
compared to something that is not successful. I was so
pleased for the young girl, "Ruth Ann." I am hoping for
such good things for her. I believe at the end of the
show she had all ready lost 105 pounds. What a GREAT
accomplishment!!! I wish there was someway we could get a hold of
her and her mother and let them know that we are all
out here. I am sure they could hear me cheer all the

I posted originally about the intolerance for
water. I thank you all so much for your input. Im not
happy that everyone feels this, but Im glad Im not
crazy. It really hurts to drink water, almost like it
turns to stone. I have printed all the messages and am
sending a nice little note to my surgeon telling him his
people skills need alot of work and that I am not crazy.
I will also expect a formal apology. he was a
brilliant surgeon but left me uneducated and does not make
it easy for me to discuss concerns with him. I was
sent home and told, "dont eat sugar" and that was it.
No support group, no follow up, no paperwork to
read, nothing. Ive learned everything right here on
this website. Thanks everyone

intolerance for water

Has anyone else had a problem drinking water? I
am 2 1/2 months post op and I swear it hurts to
drink water. It feels like it goes down and then turns
to stone. My doctor says Im nuts, but I swear its
true. I can drink crystal light, juices, milk… just
not water. I havnt suffered any other side effects so
I know its not in my head, or Id have other
problems too. Whats up with that?<br>Michelle
