Insurance approved!

Hi,
My name’s Tim and I was just approved for
RNY on March 21st! Yes, Praise God! This is terrific
news. I’m 355+ lbs. with a BMI of 52. I’m "only" 36
years old and now I will live to see my son grow up!
(Tears rolling down my cheeks!)
I will have the
surgery in Port Huron, Michigan with Dr. Ali. He’s very
good. Small hands hee-hee.
I’ll be checking back
here weekly for my WLS friends!
Tim

Dear Tim: Congratulations!!! It is so wonderful
when you can finally put a date on the beginning of
your new life. So many people are left in limbo by
their insurance companies and the "new you" always
seems to be "down the road." The first couple months
will be difficult, but after that, the sky is the
limit. You will wonder what we were thinking of all
these years, fighting constantly with our weight
problem and constantly blaming ourselves. Good luck and
we will be thinking about you.

Helen

Hi Tim,
You are doing the right thing. The
first few weeks will be painful but the key to getting
past it is to make yourself comfortable. Make sure you
have a recliner to sleep in once your home becasue you
wont be able to lay down for a few weeks. Make sure
that you can get in and out of the recliner without
using much stomach muscles. The next few weeks will be
a "trial and error" period where you will find out
what you can and cant eat. Unfortunately, alot of
these lessons are learned the hard way, but they are
learned quickly. This surgery provides a "negative
reinforcement" meaning if you cheat and eat a piece of pie, you
will sincerely regret it, and wont do it again. I like
this, becasue it keeps me away from sweets. Trust me,
youll only want to experience the dumping syndrome

once. Its no fun!!!!!
I am 3 1/2 months post op and
have lost 75 pounds. I feel great, my blood pressure
is down and I feel like I can take on the entire
world. Dont back out….. you have nothing to lose
except 100+ pounds. God Bless you.

Michelle

I’m so excited. I have spent weeks reading all of
your posts and getting increasingly anxious about the
whole thing. Went I went out to get the mail
yesterday…there it was! I’m excited and petrified at the same
time. I have a lot of questions about pre-op. I’d like
to hear about what you guys went through for pre-op
and I’d also like to hear about what you have eaten
post-op and for the following few months. Any help would
be greatly appreciated!
Thx,
Jen

Many congratulations!!!!! I had surgery last week
on the 1st. You feel much the same way I did. My
pre-ops weren’t bad. My physician requires - cardiology
exam/EGD by gastroenterologist/psych exam - two days prior
to surgery had to go in for blood work. For the two
weeks following surgery I am on a liquid diet.
broth…..jello…..popsicles…

Hello! I do not have my date yet but I have been
in the hospital for the past 4 days for another
(unrelated) surgery and saw the surgeon who will be
performing my WLS. He said that they would be ready to go as
soon as I was so I just need to call them tomorrow and
set the date. I assume it will be within the next 2-3
weeks.
I’m sure they will talk to me about what pre-op tests
are going to be required then but I was really
interested to see what all of you had
experienced.
Phyliss - you stated in your reply that you were 206 and
have lost 150 pounds…was that a typo or are weighing
in at 150 now? That has been a consistent weight
that I have seen throughout this chat group and with
those that I have spoken to about it. Does anyone ever
get below 150 after having this surgery? That may

sound like a stupid question, but honestly I haven’t
talked to one person that has. Just curious.
Thanks
again for your replies!
Jen

OOOPS I started at 306 and lost 150. Sorry to hear you are in the hospital
unrelated to the surgery. Please take care. Here for you if you need to
talk.

Phyliss
