Greetings!
Hello!
Just joined this club a few days ago
and want to say "nice to meet’cha" to you all! Im
pre-op: BMI 42, surgery sometime in Apr/May. Ive been
trying to find people who have had surgery -
specifically RNY - 3 or more years ago. Im a bit worried that
all the postings ive been able to come across from
these "veterans" reveal that they have gained back some
of the weight. I realize that your body has to find
its natural weight, but is there anyone out there who
has NOT regained anymore than 5-10 lbs?
Thanks!

Welcome to the club: I don’t know if this helps
or not, but I had my surgery back on August 14,
1997. To date I have only gained back 4 pounds of my
original 115 lbs. lost. That puts me at 144 lbs. instead
of the 140 I was at originally. My body has seemed
to settle around the 145 lb mark and doesn’t seem to
move too much. Hope this helps in some way. Helen

…so great to hear from someone who has
maintained! Especially since my weight figures seem to be the
same as yours: curr 260 w/ 120lbs to lose. Did you
have RNY or VBG? I have heard VBG has a higher rate of
regaining after a few years.

You know….I am ashamed to say I don’t even know
the technical term for the surgery I had. I was
always told it was gastric by-pass surgery and I just
left it at that. I don’t have any kind of banding,
just a smaller stomach with the stomach by-pass. I
never researched anything before my surgery….I was so
desperate, I went to the doctor one week and two weeks
later, I had the surgery. I don’t know what kind I
had….but I am sure glad I had it done. It has changed my
life. Went for a three mile walk yesterday with my
daughter. I never could have done that three years ago.
Even climbed a few hills……it feels good even at 43
yrs old.

Helen

Helen,
You are truly an inspiring woman.
Although you have had your surgey so long ago you are
still here encouraging all of the "newbies" and
"wannabes" and making us all have something to look forward
to. I am glad that I you have shared an intimate part
of your life to help the many of us out there trying
to improve ours. And I am truly thankful for this
site as it is my constant daily support!

God’s
Peace,
Cindy aka gonna_doit_thistime! (and I am!)
Open RNY

(isn’t that a wonderful feeling!) <wink> but I do
know I am really close to the 100pound lose!

Cindy:

Many people do not realize that I
need this list as much as the people that are just
having the surgery or are waiting to have the surgery. I
am at a position now where I could probably easily
gain back my weight because it is so much easier for
me to eat. I am constantly reading the posts and
listening to people as the begin their weight-loss journey.
Every day this helps me remember how far I have come
and reminds me that I do not want to return. I keep a
close watch on the scale and can get a handle on any
little weight gain right away. Like yesterday I was up
to 148 from 144. Granted this is only 4 lbs, but I
can do something about it now. Not wait like I use to
and have to contend with 50 lbs or more. This morning
I am down to 146 and probably by Sunday I will be
back down to 144 lbs. again. It is nice to finally be
in control of this life long problem. I take such
great joy when people finally have this surgery and can
see their lifes turn around. Everything seems to be
so much more positive in their lives. This is what I
look forward to reading everyday. It gives me such
renewal on my life-long journey also.

Thanks for
writing…Helen

I know I speak for myself and at least 4 others
when I say, "Please stay off our board". This sight is
not for soliciting your products. It is a support
group for people who have had or are having surgery.
Another drug is not an alternatitive for most of us. Its
just one more of a million things weve tried that gets
our hopes up and lets us down.

I don’t think you realize that those of us who
are having surgery or did have the surgery have tried
many different diets and products along the way.
Please do not tell us about any more diets or products
to lose weight. If you can’t give us the
encouragement we need to do what we feel is right for us, then
you need not come to this club.
We do not need
your type help. Thank You!

Dear Kittykat, It was good to see your message. I
agree, we definitely are not thinking that surgury is
and easy fix, and it has been a live that only
another overweight person could understand. How are you
doing? I hope well. Are you getting your strength back
and able to eat yet? We are rooting you on. I still
have not heard from my insurance so say a prayer for
me. Take care.
spacedoutagain
