Brina,
What is your BMI? IF you don’t mind me
asking. I would get a second opinion… If you have
health problems that would be solved by this surgery AND
are morbidly obese, I don’t see what 20 lbs. has to
do with it. Did they say that your insurance
wouldn’t cover it, or did they just say they won’t refer
you for it?
I was told at 23 years of age that if
I didn’t do something about my weight I wouldn’t
see Elijah (then 6 mo’s old) start pre-school. My
blood pressure was at stroke range. I also had
ammenorrhea, osteoarthritis of my left knee, hypothyroidism to
name a few. I was about 150 # over my ideal, but even
at that my insurance took 6 LONG weeks to approve my
surgery , where as my neighbor can’t be more than 50#
overweight and her only co-morbititie (sp?) being knee pain
and she was approved within a week. Sometimes I guess
it’s the person who’s reading the chart.. So I would
keep pushing if you are really psyched about
it.
Frankly, I gained 18 lbs. the last month before my surgery
just eating EVERYTHING I could that I thought I would
miss. lol.. I think I hit every fast food rest. and
buffet in town..lol
I am not telling you to gain the
weight just to have the surgery, but I am saying to ask
another dr. to try to get approval.
If you are
morbidly obese.. you really can benifit from this
surgery.. If needed, I would have it done once a year to
keep the results it has given me. It has done that
much for me.. LUCKILY, it’s not a annual operation
(boy wouldn’t that be terrible!)
I wish you the
very best of luck on this STRESSFUL time and
frustrating time.
God Bless,
Lisa Boone
