Hi........I was just reading my emails and came across the WLS group

emails....hence, I am writing to share with you that I felt relieved
to know that
your doctor believed a 10-15lbs weight loss was normal. I had my
WLS on
3/15/04 and have now lost 100lbs. but the weight loss has slowed
way down. Of
course, I am now eating more calories and have recently begun
<!--more-->
walking regularly.
I too, have a significant amount of weight to lose...my start
weight was
381lbs. Thanks for sharing...

I saw my doc today and he was very pleased with my weight loss because all
of my labs are dramatically improved. I had my band filled for the 2nd time
today and I will eat even less. They tell me it takes about 3 fills before
you really feel the impact.

Congratulations on your magnificent weight loss. Don¹t you just love
yourself? :)

I had a slow down for about a month and lost nothing. I increased my
exercise and that started the weight loss again. I was real nervous because
I had so much to lose and I was not losing much. I thought I was suppose to
lose 30 lbs a month. My doctor said 10-15 lbs a month was good.

Hello everyone,

I had my surgery on May 12, 2004 and have only lost
70lbs. I want to know if a slowing down of weight
loss is normal this early? I am nervous because I
have so much more too lose. I also want to know if my
eating and drinking habits affect my weight loss as
<!--more-->
well.

When I first started looking into WLS, I called a
doctor that I saw advertised on tv, and the counselor
that I talked to asked for my height, weight, and
other health problems. She said I was borderline for
qualifying for surgery. When I went in for a consultation
however, I found out I am an inch shorter than I used to
be, and of course the doctor's scale weighed much
more than my home scale (don't they always?). So, my
BMI turned out to be 43, and I really wasn't
borderline afterall. It can't hurt to go to a surgeon or
primary doctor and get your official height and weight
measured to see where you stand.

Jeanne, I am in the same situation as you right
now. I am 25 and I have a BMI of about 39 or so. I
also have arthritis in my back, my feet hurt if I
stand for more than 1/2 hr, I have slightly high blood
pressure and have a family history of heart attacks, sleep
apnea, high blood pressure and almost everyone in my
family is overweight. I am scared that if I don't get
approved that one of these things will happen to me. I
have spoken to the RN that assists and does info
clinics. She did say that I would be a good canidid for
this surgery, the only problems is getting the DR to
refer me and having my ins approve it. I am not sure if
I should just gain a few pounds (which wouldn't be
a problem) to get my BMI to 40.
