New to the group :)

Sunday, October 26th, 2003

Hello!
I am new to the group. My sister is
going to be getting this surgery as long as she gets a
referral from her doctor (which should not be a problem).
When she first told me what she was thinking of doing,
I was very scared for her and really didn’t want
her to do it. However, after learning more about the
surgery and knowing our family history, I would say it is
going to be the best thing she could do, and I will
support her decision and help her in any way I can.
She took me to an informational group yesterday at
the hospital she would like to have this done at and
I figured that I would get weighed since I was
there. Well, the RN that weighed me said that I would be
a good candidate for the surgery myself! She told
me that I would need to get a referral and I am not

Really down

Friday, October 24th, 2003

Hi all. I am 20lbs. underweight for this
surgery.
Today…after 7 years…I told my boyfriend to leave.
Why? I
was thin when we first met…the last 4 years I have
put on around 50-60lbs. and he won’t come near
me…(sorry to be so straightforward)…but my self-esteem is
so low and I have become more and more
reclusive.
I am 5′ 2 1/2" and weigh 180lbs.

A doc
already denied me because I do not weigh enough…even
though I have health problems related to
obesity.

Anyway…I AM glad for you who have been given this
wonderful chance in life.

Thank you for
listening.

brina

Hiya! Need advice!

Thursday, October 23rd, 2003

Hi everyone! It has been such a long time since I
have checked the messages… and hello to all our new
members! Welcome!
I have hit a point in my weight loss
that has gotten me really depressed. Five months after
surgery, I am 30 pounds away from goal weight and it just
doesn’t want to come off. I’ve been on this "plateau" for
almost 2 months now. My doc says to be patient, that as
you get closer to goal it will take a while, but..
geesh! And so, I have found myself having pity-parties
for myself, my interest in the computer is gone,
there is more snow on the ground and the end of winter
isn’t in sight!
Any advice for the
depressed?
*sniffle*
Laura

Advice, Again!

Monday, October 20th, 2003

I am so new to this, therefore I am back with
another question. Since I told my family (as much as I
know about this surgery) two people have asked me:
after surgery "why would your body now accept such a
small amount of food to sustain itself" and if it can,
"why don’t I try just living on what your post-ops
currently ingest". I know currently it would be very
difficult to live on such small amounts of food and
liquids, so why does my body let me AFTER the surgery? Is
it silly to think I could follow your intake
guidelines now and getting the same results, sans surgery? I
don’t have a good answer. I told them I am not sure
why. I usually get the shakes when I don’t eat at
certain times or get enough food, will my body still do
this? Curious, again… Also, can someone post the

Want Advice

Saturday, October 18th, 2003

I was speaking with my 5′2" 300# friend (I am
5′6" 266# we were discussing WLS since my Dr suggested
it to me) and she is totally afraid of surgery/diet
restrictions and she said and I quote " I would rather choose
death than stick to a diet", and had tons of negative
opinions about the surgery (I think she is misinformed) I
try to tell her she is a prime candidate for this
surgery, she has sleep apnea, a hiatal hernia etc. Do I
waist (he he : waste) my time, or do you have any other
suggestions for people who do not want the surgery?

Can anyone help me…please?

Hi all. I have been searching all over the web
for the Old Fashioned weight/height porportion
facts.
Like is a person is 5′3′…what is there ideal weight
range without being overweight.

I can’t
determine how much overweight I am without knowing this.
Everything is BMI…but the criteria for the WLS is also how
much overweight a person is…plus other medical
conditions.

I really have searched…and I would appreciate
anyone that knows where this kind of chart could be
located.

Thank you.
brina

Is anyone here from Massachusetts?

Thursday, October 16th, 2003

Hi…I just joined and got a reply…thank
you.
The only reason my weight is presently at 180lbs. at
5′ 3" is I recently went on a crash diet.

I
know most of you here have probably heard the same
questions over and over…and I do appreciate your
replys.

Thank you.
