Any Advise?
My sister got her referral from her doctor today!
I am so excited for her! She is going to try (as
long as she is approved through her ins) to get in
early May for the surgery. Can anyone give me advise on
what I can do for her after surgery? I am looking into
this myself and want to wait to see how she does
first, she what happens to her, how she feels and I want
to help her expecially those first two weeks after
surgery. Any hints on what anyone could have done for you
after surgery or what you liked people doing for you to
help out or make things more comfortable?

Make absolute positive sure that you have a
recliner for her to sleep in. Comfort makes recovery much
easier.i had my surgery in Nov and didnt have a recliner
and it was horrible to have to prop myself on the
couch in the seated position. She wont be able to lay
in the bed for a few weeks. My husband had surgery
in Feb and we made sure he had a recliner. It made
all the difference. Also take any small children off
her hands for at least the first week. One more thing
is sugar free popsicles. They help her with her
fluid requirements, are a tasty treat and will cool her
off. She will thank you for these things.

Dear Babs: What I wanted someone to do for me was
to wait on me hand and foot. I was feeling very
sorry for myself and I wanted to be waited on. Just
friendly reminders to walk to build back up my strength,
but some how I wanted to someone to feel sorry for
me. To get a little pampering. It will be normal for
your sister to second-guess her decision to have the
surgery and you will have to do a lot of moral boosting.
I think my idea was no thin person had to go
through something like this to be thin, so I felt sorry
for myself that I had to go through this just to lose
weight. I had a nice big pity party and then got over it.
A shoulder for those first two weeks is a wonderful
thing.

Helen (Surgery 8-14-1997)
