Congrats!!!!!!<br>I know you are excited… the
great bonus for you is that by the time you get back to
work you WILL be a whole new person… people will be
very suprised… and you will FEEL WONDERFUL!!! I know
in 3 months I had lost 40 pounds and was feeling
great.. now in 7 months I have lost just over 100 and I
feel even better!<br>Good Luck, and keep us all
    posted!<br>Cindy

Congratulations!!! How long did you wait for
insurance approval?? It’s been over 4 weeks and no news.
I’m hoping to have mine about the same time. I teach
and want to have it the minute school is out. We get
out on June 2nd. That’s wonderful you are scheduled.
What grade do you teach? See you, spacedout

When I went for my counseltation, several of the
women in my group did not want people to know the kind
of surgery they were having. The doctor said its
listed as abdominal surgery and just to tell people you
had your gall bladder taken out. What do you think of
this?? Also you that have already had the surgery what
are the reactions you get when you tell people. I am
just wondering about this. I really haven’t even told
my mom or sister,<br>or very few friends, its almost
like I’m afraid of jinking myself. Thanks for
    listening to me ramble. Spacedout

If I get my surgery approved, I planned on
telling people this too. I can see myself slowly telling
people, but I feel embarrassed about my weight, and
speaking of what I need to do to manage it, seems awkward,
however, maybe once I am 100lb less, I may (and you may)
not have a problem discussing.<br>I went to my Endo
today and he refered me to a WLS Dr. @ UCD- my insulin
(I think) was 32 (normal between 5-30)I wonder if
they will still consider me? Has anyone been approved
with just the weight, high blood pressure and other
symtpoms (back, snoring, PCOS…)???? I hope I am
    considered.

  5. Neva Marjory Says:

I had my surgery 3/13 and I had mine approved due
to my weight, BMI and borderline high blood
pressure. The other things like sore back and snoring were
due to my weight. I also had joint pain because I was
so heavy. It has only been two weeks but I feel
great and the weight is coming off. I’m having a bit of
trouble (mentally) staying on the full liquids (it gets
boring) and my tastes have changed.<br>If you are 100 lbs
over your ideal weight you should be
    approved.<br>Nancy

The subject of what and who to tell about the
surgery is very difficult. On one hand we as obese/abused
people don’t want to face all of the comments from those
negative individuals who take pleasure in running us down
because of a condition we truly can’t control. On the
other hand by keeping quiet we perpetuate the myth that
diets work.<br>Each individual must feel comfortable
with themselves. I am one who told everyone around me
about the surgery. However I am very much at ease
discussing my rationale and exhibiting the
results.<br>Whatever your decision is regarding telling people about
the surgery please do not feel self concious about
your surgery decision itself. This is a life saving
procedure that is not "an easy way out". It takes courage
to even contemplate having the surgery and even more

courage to follow through with the decision.<br>I hope
one day that WLS will be looked upon as a standard
medical option that is available to those of us who need
    it.<br><br>Bob Johnson<br>Open RnY - 01/12/00<br>Pre Op -

Hi spaced :)<br><br>Well, it’s funny. I have been
so proud and happy about this weight loss surgery
from the very beginning. I have never hesitated
sharing my news with anyone that wanted to know, and in
fact, have had several people consider surgery as a way
out for themselves. The only thing that I don’t like
is that all eyes are on me. They watch everything I
do, what I eat, wait for me to fail.. that kind of
thing. I’ve proven them wrong though, and have been the
local posterchild that this can really happen, that you
can lose the weight. I’m 5 months post op and down 96
pounds (almost to goal). I’ve just never been ashamed of
myself or my actions.. I truly feel sorry for those that
    do. :(<br><br>Best regards,<br>Laura H.

Nancy, Thanks for letting me know, this makes me
have a little more hope.<br><br>Helen, Your Doctor IS
CRAZY. Why is she speaking to you like a 3 yr old? 150
is an average weight. You know what she is saying is
BUNK. I know it can bring you down, but you have to
tell yourself, you know right from wrong, you are
strong, you can bring yourself back up. Can you get a
second opinion? Congrats on your tremendous loss!

  10. Neva Marjory Says:

Nancy, I’m so glad you are doing so well. My
doctor told a room full of us from truck drivers to
teachers that we could go back to work at 2 weeks. Do you
agree with this? I’m dying to have my surgery over
spring break, but am afraid if I don’t feel okay after 2
weeks to go back to work.<br>Thanks, Barbie

  11. Neva Marjory Says:

2 weeks my aching butt? You could get away with
it if you absolutely had to, but it would be
miserable. After 14 days, you still wont be laying flat in
the bed to sleep and sitting at a desk or on your
feet for 8 hours will be real uncomfotable. Then there
is the fact that you still wont have figured out
your new insides yet. It will take several weeks of
"trial and error" just to determine what/how much/how
often etc you can eat. Then there is the mental side of
it. This surgery plays mind games on alot of
patients. This can last for a few weeks with depression,
anxiety, etc. I say play it safe and arrange for 6 weeks
off. Then you will be 100% (almost) when you go back
and people will already see a difference in your
    weight.

  12. Neva Marjory Says:

Barbie~<br> I wouldn’t rush getting back. You and
I BOTH know as teachers what the job does to you
when you are "healthy". I’m looking forward to getting
it done as soon as school is over and I cannot wait
to go back to school in September to see everyone’s
faces! hehe…I just know what it’s like to prepare to
have a sub for a long time and let’s face it…those
20 something kids are OUR kids and we still worry
about them when we cannot be there. I say, end the year
and relax and get better. That’s my
    plan!<br><br>~Angela

  13. Neva Marjory Says:

    Congratulations! I am sooooooooo envious!!

  14. Neva Marjory Says:

I haven’t been on line for a while so forgive me
for not answering sooner. I am lucky that I am
healing very quickly and I feel fantastic. I was given
the okay to go back to work three weeks after my
surgery. I have a sit down computer job and I can get up
at anytime and leave my desk to walk around or take
a break. I am very very lucky because my boss is
very understanding. I can take it as slow as I want.
If I can’t get my forty hours in at work I can come
home and do the work at my leisure. I can also leave
work if I don’t feel up to finishing the rest of the
day. I have alot of friends at work and they keep me
motivated. I don’t have alot of stress and if people get on
my nerves I’ve been told that I get a look about me
that scares the pants off most people. They really do

like me in my group because I’m so weird.<br><br>I
would not recommend going back this early if you do any
other job other then a sit down one, If your job is not
supportive of your needs and you have not regained most of
your energy level. Go at your own pace. My doctor
asked me when I wanted to go back to work and I enjoy
what I do. So don’t feel pressured and take things one
    day at a time.<br>Nancy

  15. Kathy Lucrecia Says:

Please remember that each person is different and
that each surgery is unique to that person… Nancy
talk to YOUR docotr and ask what HE/SHE says… I know
when I wrote in, I could only comment on myself, what
my docotr said, and how I really felt. But it is
important to remember that even though you may start to
feel better (hopefully) your insides are still healing
and take a good 8 weeks… and months of healing for
those large muscles if you have an Open
RNY.<br><br>Good Luck,<br>I will keep you in my prayers!<br>Cindy
