drinking water , fatigue, depression
I have had my surgery almost 7 weeks ago. I am
still very fatigued at times. I am only drinking maybe
25 ozs of liquid a day. My doctor didn’t really
mention that I should try to drink more water with time.
At what point should I be drinking at least 64 ozs a
day. I am also still very depressed at times. Is this
normal. It’s especially hard when I am around others who
can eat normally. Lately 2-3 ozs of food at a meal
doesn’t seem to be enough. This really bothers me. I just
don’t want to do the wrong things. Please HELP! Thank
you. Carol

My doctor had me drinking 64 ounces of liquids a
day right away when I left the hospital. I really
don’t think 25 ounces is enough to keep you healthy.
You should keep a glass of ice water or other drink
next to you all the time and sip on it all day. Keep
trying!

Hi Carol!<br>Congratulations on your surgery,
that’s great! I wanted to tell you that we all go
through the psychological "mourning" phase. Major
depression is so common, but it will pass. If you get up and
walk, it seems to help lift the agony of being so tired
and mentally lifts your spirits somewhat. Enjoy the
spring weather, and remind yourself that you will soon
have a whole new you to look forward to.<br><br> 2-3
oz of food didn’t seem to be enough for me either,
and I made myself miserable wishing I could just
pause for a Big Mac. You know, "let me off this train!
What did I do to myself? Maybe my doctor can reverse
this, I am miserable."<br><br>The first 3 months are
probably the hardest. The 2-3 oz of food is adequate for
your body but not your mind. It will get better, after
you pass this stage. I promise it will.<br><br>The
water issue.. well, you know what I do? I drink Crystal
Light, Diet Snapple, and Sugar Free Kool Aid in leiu of
water. Of course, I drink water also, but I couldn’t get
enough in. Just get in your 64 oz of liquids, whatever
they may be.<br><br>Hang in there, and in the last
message, I’d posted my email address. If you need someone
to talk to, I’m here :)<br><br>Hugs,<br>Laura H.
