Curious to know!?
What was your expirience with getting an
appointment to see your Surgeon? Once referred to them by my
Endo, I was sent a questionairre that I had to fill out
before they even agree to see me) and I overnighted it
to them the 17th.. I called twice that week (17th)
and twice this week (24th) and still no appt. Shound
I continue to be the squeaky wheel? Lord knows how
long of a waiting list they have, and I want in & done
& approved YESTERDAY! Also, I know my insurance
will do the procedure it just must be "medically
nescessary" I want them to know this information ASAP. I am
trying to have this done at UCDavis Medical Center in
Sacramento- if any one else had similar headaches with it/or
others, I’d love to hear more stories.
Thanks
Karen

I discussed the surgery first with my family Dr.
When he agreed he told me to go to Dr. Schreiber in
Cleveland. I called the next day. How they do it there is
they have free consultations every Tuesday of the
month and I got in the very next Tues. Once it was time
to schedual though they were booking 2 months
ahead.

Cynthia
Pre-op
Open RNY
June 2, 2000

I think a lot depends on what co-morbidities you
have. I just had my pre-ops done on March 27 and heres
what tests they did on me:
abdominal ultrasound
(kidneys, aorta, gallbladder, stomach)
upper-GI
chest
x-rays
blood work
EKG
Your dr. may require more or
less

Hope this helps
Tracy

Hi Angela. My pre-op testing started with being
weighed, then the phlebotomist came and took 2 vials of
blood, then I had an electrocardiogram(very quick and
painless), and 2 chest x-rays. It only took about an
hour….then I had a 45 minute meeting with a registered
dietician (which was very helpful) That was it…I had my
gallbladder out 4 yrs ago, so that was not a concern. I know
every doc is different, but this was no big deal! (and
to think i lost sleep over it!! 8D) hope this
helps…..Kelli

Thanks! I’ve already had the gallbladder
ultrasound and the bloodwork. I have no peptic ulcers and
even if they see stones they wont remove my
gallbladder because Im having lap RNY. They’ll prescribe meds
and wait and see after the surgery.
Thanks again!

Angela~ another thing you can say about this
surgery is that you have a gastric problem that needs to
be repaired. true, but not too much info. (this
prevents the ‘oohs’, and ‘aahhs’, and ‘that is such a
drastic step’. Then as everyone notices the way you eat,
and the weight you have lost, you can say that you
needed to alter your diet because of that gastric
surgery, and the plus side is you are losing weight.
I
have some people that this is what I told them to
avoid their negative feedback, and it has been quite
effective!! Good luck to you, and enjoy your summer as you
"melt away!" Kelli

Was the bloodwork painful? I heard some horror story about it having to come
from an atery etc.
December 8th, 2003 at 4:19 pm
hmmm, I meant artery. Funny. The surgery doesn’t scare me, but the bloodwork
does!

I can handle the bloodwork AND the surgery…my anxiety is the darn TUBE down
the throat! Im such a WHIMP!

Thanks girls!!
December 9th, 2003 at 7:26 am
Anytime you have surgery with general anesethia
(sp) you have to have a tube down your throat…. but
as for the one from this, it is NO BIG DEAL… and
believe me anything you go through you will do again to
feel as good as I do! Being "skinny" is not the goal,
feeling healthy and being able to "move" around is! And I
am THERE!
Cindy
open rny 8/2/99
preop

I don’t remember the bloodwork being that bad, if
you aren’t afraid to go thru major surgery the blood
work should be a breeze. Beleive me I hate needles
too, but it wasn’t too bad at all. I even had a 5 hour
blood sugar test, but that was because I have Diabetes
on both sides of my family. I don’t know if you have
to do that one or not, but even that was not too
bad. If you get the right person to draw your blood
sometimes you don’t even know they are there. You will do
fine, it is natural for you to be afraid though, I
think we all have something that scares us about the
surgery. Good Luck with your surgery, we are all pulling
for you

Thanks for being in-depth about it… I start to
KR
Lisa- if one of us
panic during blood work, sometimes it is hard to find
my veins, then I get lightheaded…
While reading
various topics on this WLS I heard they had to get artery
blood and went through your wrist. That gave me the
willies. Then someone spoke of epidurals! YIKES! Needles!
You know, as long as I am unconcious, I don’t care
what they do to me
tapes the show, we could maybe circulate a copy. I
think I will try and watch it.
