Dear Windsong: I had my surgery on August 14,
1997. I KNOW exactly what you are talking about. I used
food for comfort too. Of course, when I used to eat
for comfort I ate until I got the sensation of being
full. That is what I do now also.....EXCEPT......the
feeling of being full comes after eating six crackers
instead of six courses. To give you an idea of what I eat
now....I went to Denny's today and got a "Grand Slam"
breakfast. I told them to forget the bacon and sausage. Ate
the two fried eggs, ate some hash browns, gave my
husband one of the pancakes and ate about three bites of
the other one. Also had two cups of coffee.
So....see...you still can eat.....but the portions are smaller
and I still am satisfied because I feel
stuffed.

Helen
Surgery 8-14-1997 @ 255 lbs.
Today 5-18-2000 @ 145

Oh Barbie.. I bet you are anxious! :) I am
excited for you. I remember the day of surgery very
well.. I was looking forward to it for a long time. You
won't blow it. Take it one meal at a time, eat slowly
and listen to your body. Your tummy will be full so
much faster. I used a baby spoon to make myself eat
slower and it worked. :)
Take care and Good
luck!
Lisa B.

OVER EAT. I HAVE 9 DAYS TO GO AND WAS THINKING JUST

OVEREAT. I HAVEN'T WANTED TO OVER EAT. I'M HOPING I'LL
KEEP THIS FEELING AFTER SURGERY. THE ONLY THING I'M
GETTING REALLY NERVOUS ABOUT WHAT I CAN AND CAN'T EAT
AFTER SURGERY. MY DR. IS MR. LAID BACK AND HAS NOT SAID
ANYTHING TOO MUCH ABOUT THIS. I'M REALLY AFRAID OF
BL;OWING IT!!!!! PLEASE GIVE ME ANY TIPS YOU HAVE. THANKS,
BARBIE

Windsong, I have to tell you a truth you must
face... if you KNOW now that food is your comfort, unless
you CHANGE that... you may lose the weight, but you
CAN gain it back! I have two friends that have done
just that! When I was looking at having my surgery
they never told me they had had it... but after I had
come home they told me they also had the surgery and
although they lost the weight they slowly gained it ALL
back... of course they wished me luck, and I asked them a
lot of questions and talked to my doctor and
nutritionist about it... both said that if they had not
changed their lives... and this kind of surgery IS life
changing! If you go in with an open mind... it can bring
you a new life... in my short 8 1/2 months it
certainly has for me!
Good Luck,
Cindy
Open RNY

Windsong, i cant speak for anyone except my
husband and I, and a friend who have all had WLS. Weve
talked about this and agree that this is no longer an
issue. Do you ever go to a buffet and eat until you just
cant eat anymore? well, thats how we feel after a very
small amount of food. For me, I sometimes get a sweet
tooth, but it is so easily satisfied now. One simple
piece of sugar free hard candy does for me what 3 candy
bars used to. Sometimes I miss ice cream, but there
are sugar free ones out there that are pretty good. I
really dont miss anything except the occasional mocha
coffee from starbucks. I was worried about this too. Im
sure it bothers some, but for us 3, we agree that this
surgery has corrected our eating compulsions.
