Looking for support

Sunday, December 21st, 2003

Hi everyone, I just joined the club tonight and
I’m still trying to learn how to use it! I had my
weightloss surgery on 3/10/00 and I am having a tough time
finding support. I hope to find some here. I seem to be a
slow loser, having only lost 45# in 2 1/2 months. I
started at 364, and was projected to lose over 90# by
now. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Not a question to ask just anyone….

I am considering WLS and am scheduled for a
consultation in July.

A question for those of you who
have had WLS…..I know it alters forever how much you
eat and to some extent, what you can eat…..Do you
ever miss being able to overeat, to binge, to eat for
comfort? It’s hard to admit it but over the years food has
become a part of my coping mechanism, probably more than
I even realize it…..and I’m wondering what life
will be like without being able to use food like that.

Lost Hope

Friday, December 19th, 2003

Hi all! I’m new to the group. I have been a
morbidly obese female for 25 of my 31 years of existence.
I’ve been dieting since age 5 and on diet pills since
age 14. I lose 60 lbs only to regain 100 lbs. It has
robbed me of my self-esteem and happiness. I want…need
this surgery. My problem is that my insurance company
will not cover it. I was scheduled to have an open RNY
4 yrs ago but my insurance company changed their
minds 2 days before the surgery. I was so
disappointed….I almost had a nervous breakdown. I have
recovered…….good job and a 2nd yr grad student at Duke….but I
still need the surgery. I have a BMI of 53.1 and 2
recent fasting blood sugars were elevated. I have a new
HMO but the surgery is not covered unless deemed
"medical necessary". My new PCP was all for the procedure

Happy Mother’s Day to all

Friday, December 19th, 2003

Hi, can you believe its Mother’s Day? I used to
hate Mother’s Day after Michael(my oldest
son)
died, but today I am just so thankful for my other 3
children. I know Michael is happy and fine, its time to
enjoy my other 3. Everyone I wish the best this day. I
know how hard today can be on ones that have lost
mothers, children,
and loved ones. Also I pray for
stepmothers and women that haven’t been able to conceive a
child.
Hug your love ones today and thank God for
all his blessings, they are so many. Bye, Barbie

Appeals

Thursday, December 18th, 2003

Does anyone know of any websites where I could
find information on
appeals? I know that i qualify
for this surgery but I have been
denied. BMI 47
324lbs 30yrs 5′6". I just need a few pointers on
writing an appeal. The insurance company flat out told me
the only
way they would cover is if I am dying.
(I already have degenerative
arthritis in my
knee, and co-morbidities WILL kill me in the long
run..but I guess I am not close enough to death for the
insurance)
If anyone could give me some pointers or even tell
the me how their
appeals have gone I would
greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
My insurance is
Priority Health PPO in Michigan.

Questions about Gastic Banding

Wednesday, December 17th, 2003

I have been over weight all my life. I am considering getting the lap band. Has
anyone gotten pregnant after getting this procedure done? Are there special
things to consider?

First Step…

Wednesday, December 17th, 2003

Hi Everyone! Well, I did it!! I called BTC and
set up a consultation! It’s not until the middle of
July, but that’s O.K. I talked to a friend of mine,
yesterday, who had WLS last year and she answered alot of my
questions and told me about her surgery (which is the same
kind I will have). It was very encouraging. She’s lost
106 lbs. I quess between now and July, I will
continue to read all I can and learn as much as I can
about the procedure. Have a good day
everyone!
Windsong
