my most embarrasing "fat" moment

Tuesday, December 16th, 2003

Hi all. Id like to share with the you the
ultimate in humiliation. This was what made me break down
and look into this surgery. Im telling you this
becasue I know Candace you had some embarrasments
recently but this one takes the cake. I can talk about it
without crying now becasue Ive since lost 100
pounds.
I had my inlaws over and we were putting in a
movie. I couldnt find the remote to the vcr anyplace. I
was walking all through the house and when I came
back into the family room I put up my arms and said,
"I cant find it." As I said that, I heard a
kerplunk. It was between my thighs and had fallen to the
ground. Everyone laughed that the remote had been there
all along. I was so humiliated that I ran off and
shut myself in the bathroom. My husband was outraged

Beginning….

Monday, December 15th, 2003

Hi Everyone! I am just in the beginning stages of
considering WLS. I know three women in my community that have
had WLS and am amazed at the results. I always said
that I wouldn’t consider having anything like this
done…but here I am seriously thinking about it. I am 43
yrs. old and weigh 315 at 5′8". I am diabetic and have
high blood pressure. For the most part, I feel O.K.
but know that all this extra weight is killing me,
slowly but surely. I have tried losing weight and bee
very successfu ta couple of times…once before I got
pregnant with our daughter and once shortly after I
learned I was diabetic about two years ago. Both times I
lost about 60 lbs and eventually gained it all back.
This seems to be the weight I basically stop at. I
would love to hear about some of your

Sorry I haven’t posted in a while. I had to wait
for my computer to get fixed, then I had to save the
money to afford to get it back…lol
My WONDERFUL
(said sarcastically) 1 yr. old son jammed a peanut
butter sandwhich in my cd rom… which melted because
the hard drive was warm and all that lovely oil
dripped onto the components inside…GRRRR
Anyway.

are all doing great. I have missed you all.
My

Physc. evaluation and sleep study

Wednesday, December 10th, 2003

Well, I passed the physcological evaluation. I
was a little concerned though. My physcologist said
if he found nothing wrong with me the insurance
wouldn’t pay for the visit. And if he diagnosed me as
depressed they would deny the surgery until I was treated.
SO, he diagnosed me with adjustment disorder. He said
I was depressed due to the fact I couldn’t adjust
being overweight. And the only treatment would be to
lose weight, which I have been trying to do all my
life. Anyway, I hope this doesn’t mess things up with
the insurance. I go have a sleep study done on the
17th. What can I expect from that? i sure hope I have
sleep apnea!! Sounds crazy I know. My dr. also wants to
see if I have degenerative joint disorder. Anyone
heard of that? Need x-rays and MRI to diagnose that. So

United Healthcare….OOOOH I’m pissed!!!

Tuesday, December 9th, 2003

Well, there is a EXCELLENT doctor in New Orleans
that does this type of surgery, in fact he is
pioneering new operations….problem is I called United
Healthcare, and cut and dry, they dont cover this surgery.
Has anyone had any experience with them? The lady I
spoke with said they used to pay for it but no longer.
????????????????????????????

Lenghty… but I need advise please!!!

My husband and I were both unhealthy obese
messes. Thinking of our lives before the surgery makes me
cringe. I had gained 175 pounds after the tragic loss of
a child. I met Jim at my heaviest, most depressed,
and unappiest time. I was so fat I
would never go
do the things I loved. I just watched TV all day,
aside from my part
time job which was inactive. He
could eat 2 large pizzas a day, and sat at his computer
every waking moment. We never did anything, went
anywhere, or had anyone over. It was fine for me, because I
was too fat and depressed to leave the house
anyway.
Jim and I decided to do this together. We talked
about how we would commit to a new lifestyle, and how
wonderful things would be. We discussed this indebth for
several months before getting evaluated. We were hopeful

A question about extracts

Friday, December 5th, 2003

Hi all. I had an open RNY on 3-27-00 and am
struggling with ways to choke down my protein drink. I’ve
added half a banana (w/my dr’s okay) to my drink, but
realize that I’m consuming extra calories at the same
time. I’m wondering, has anyone experimented with
extracts…artificial flavorings? Any problems? I’m under the
impression they are made with alcohol and I’m wondering if
there’ve been any side effects.

Thanks in
advance,
Linda

Curious to know!?

Thursday, December 4th, 2003

What was your expirience with getting an
appointment to see your Surgeon? Once referred to them by my
Endo, I was sent a questionairre that I had to fill out
before they even agree to see me) and I overnighted it
to them the 17th.. I called twice that week (17th)
and twice this week (24th) and still no appt. Shound
I continue to be the squeaky wheel? Lord knows how
long of a waiting list they have, and I want in & done
& approved YESTERDAY! Also, I know my insurance
will do the procedure it just must be "medically
nescessary" I want them to know this information ASAP. I am
trying to have this done at UCDavis Medical Center in
Sacramento- if any one else had similar headaches with it/or
others, I’d love to hear more stories.
Thanks
Karen

Thursday, December 4th, 2003

I got a call today and my surgery will be on June

out my school year and prepare for a sub! School is
over June 19th which means I will be using only 11
sick days! Yeehaa!

BTW…I’m also getting
married May 20th! Busy month, huh??

Thanks for ALL
of your support here and I’m sure I’ll be getting
more!

Two questions: What are the pre-admission tests like?
What will they do? I haven’t received my "packet" yet
and I was just looking to see if I could get answers
before it came!

Thanks!!
