Birth Control

Spoke to my doctor, he said there should be no
problem with absorption. However, if your cycles are
changing you should talk to your gyn. Obese people don’t
have normal cycles sometimes and the weight loss may
change that.<br><br>Phyliss

Does anyone have any information about taking birth control pills
after the surgery? My Dr. warned that they may not be effective due
    to malabsorption.

Oops, the post went to quick. <G>
I’m afraid I’m not much help with personal experience. Maybe someone else
    can chime in.

Your doctor is absolutely correct. I know of 3 people who became pregnant
while on the pill after WLS. Talk to your doctor about the patch or the shot -
    these are your best bet.

Although others have been recommending the patch I have heard that it
is only effective for those 198 lbs or less. True that bcp not an
effective option used alone either. Seems that combining two forms
of birth control (pill/condom, patch/condom), using an iud or the new
"ring" are the most common ways to go. Did your doctor suggest
alternatives when he/she gave the bcp warning?
