Keeping Motivated….

Sunday, January 25th, 2004

I am about 3 months post-op and have lost about
60 lbs. I started out at 294 and am now 231. I know
this is a lot of weight, but I can’t see that big of a
difference in myself. I was wondering what you all do to
stay motivated while you are a little depressed over
the results you are seeing in yourself. I do keep
track of my weight and my measurements. I was feeling
really good about myself until someone at the store
asked when I was due. That seemed to really hurt my
self-esteem. So any suggestions are welcome! I need something
to keep me
motivated.

Thanks,
Tracy
Open-VBG on April 3, 2000
Dr. Harberg

I was approved today! Just wanted to share! :)

photos

We get alot of newbies asking for before and
after pics. Mine are there, why doesnt everyone list
some?
We love all photos of course, but our goal
here should be to help the newbies and inspire them.
For that reason, the photos not related to
before/after should be moved to a more appropriate place, and
everyone should limit their posts to 3-4 photos. This way
everyone can list. We do have limited space on
this.
Get those pictures up. Its so easy to do. We all want
to see before/after pics. Ill be replacing my
before/after 4 months photos with my 8 month photos soon.

Before/After Picture

It is so nice to see everyone here on the Obesity
Surgery Support Group. I am fairly a new member and I was
just wondering about everyone that was here before me,
why don’t you have a photograph of you before and
after the surgery. I would love to see the results, it
would at least encourage the new people to this
bulletin board.

Photo Update!!

I uploaded my 4 week post-op pics! I am wearing a smaller bra in the pic so it
doesnt look like there’s a whole lot more difference.

Thanks for all of
your support!

~Angela

Tracey~

I’m not sure about YOUR doctor,
BUT my doctors NEVER asked that question. The doctors
that do these types of surgeries arent as negative as
regular doctors (at least in my experience). They want to
help…Be positive going in!

Good
luck!

~Angela
LAP RNY 6/5/00
Pre-op 296
Post-op 254
4

Surgical Consult

Wednesday, January 21st, 2004

Hello all. I’m fairly new to this club. I’ve been
trying to have weight loss surgery for 6 years now but
each time my insurance company "shoots me down!" Well,
my current insurance company has approved for me to
have a surgical consult on July 3rd. I’m really
nervous because this is the furthest I’ve ever gotten. I
know the doctor is going to ask: "Why do you think
this surgery is going to help you when you have failed
so many diets?!" Any suggestions on how to answer
this question would really help! With a BMI of 55.1, I
really need this surgery. Thanks in
advance!:)

Tracey

Hey Gang

I founded this group a couple of years ago, but
don’t check in much any more. But I am glad that people
are finding it. I have been post op for two years, my
wife for 1 year. I have posted some before and after
photos in the photo section. Take a look and see the
changes!

P.S. I am looking for someone to take over the founder
role for this group. Doesn’t require much work, but I
am in law school and don’t have hardly any free
time. Email me if interested.

Newbie here - the smoking issue….

Tuesday, January 20th, 2004

I am from Northern Alberta Canada and I am going
to have my surgery VBG sometime in September. I
recently received my information package regarding the
surgery and it says in big block letters IF YOU SMOKE YOU
MUST QUIT IMMEDIATELY! There is also a video in the
package and the doctor does explain why he requires his
patients to quit. When we smoke the small hair in our
lungs (cilia?) stop working. In order to get them
working again, we must not smoke for 3 weeks. We can keep
the cilia inactive by only one cigarette a day. The
cilia help clean out our lungs after the general
anasthetic (SP). He will not perform surgery on a smoker.
And that is that. Okay I understand this and today is
my last day of smoking - tomorrow I am going for
some tests and I have to not smoke drink or eat for 14
