hi all

hi, im am so glad i have found this site. i am
set for surgery on sept 29th, and i know i will need
someone to talk to who knows what im going through.

i read some of the previous postings, and thought i
would share a bit about my journey. i began in january
of 2000, and by the time i went through all the
psych testing, and getting my medical history, it was
april before i even got to meet with the surgeon. from
there, i applied to the insurance company (this was a
total nitemare). at the end of may i was denied, and
appealed it. i just found out last week that they
overturned it, and it was approved. so, i just wanna say to
those of you out there with the denials. dont give
up……keep on the insurance company and appeal as many times
as it takes. good luck.

tina

Tina,
I would like to welcome you to the
site… there are a few out there but this is my
favorite! In the days, weeks, and onths ahead there will be
many changes in your life… you will have questions
and here you can find answers! Although it is always
best to talk to your own doctor… it is great to have
the support and cheering behind you that you will
find here! I wish you all the best and I am happy that
you fought and have won the battle of the insurance
companies… because that is a really awful battle that many
loose because the ins co have baeat them down… and
when you go into battle already weary and in ill
health… who do they think they are to take advantage of
us at a time like that?? Keep your chin up and I
look forward to hearing from you soon how you are

doing!
Cindy
open RNY 8/2/99
preop 298
current 168 BMI 26

Hi all. I just found this club. Looks great. I
myself, have thought long and hard about it and am
planning on having the surgery done on march 20th. I hope
i can learn from everyone and be there to support
all that are there. thanks
Sean

Hi Sean:
Congratulations on embarking on a
whole new life- what surgery are you having done? I had
open VBG on Jan. 10, 2001 and I am feeling so good-I
know it was the right thing for me. Hope we will be
able to support you as you journey to "the other
side", and after too. Best of luck.
Sue

thanks to everyone that said hi. I’m having the Rount-en-y gastric bypass and a
Cholicystetomy.

I haven’t posted in a while, I have just
passed the four month post op and am feeling great. I
was looking at the photos people have posted and you
all look wonderful! I was wondering what sort of
exercises have people been doing since their surgery. I
have discovered this new lease of life and am going to
aquaerobics in the mornings for and hour and the gym in the
afternoons for 1 1/2 - 2 hours. I haven’t really noticed any
change but people tell me they have, i guess that is
good.
I have lost (as of my 3 month check) 40kg (88lbs),
but that was a month ago so I will have to wait till
next weigh in for the next results!

If you
could just let me know what it is you are all doing to
get into shape it would be a big help!

Sarah

I’m new to this group and just wanted to post that I am so excited
because I’m scheduled to have my RNY on July 2nd, eleven whole days
from now. Woowee!!! I just wish I’d had the nerve to do this surgery
1-200lbs ago (I now weigh an embarassing 522lbs) and now I’m just
about housebound. It’s not hard to figure out that I have difficulty
walking and can’t walk very far without my back hurting, so I’m hoping
my surgery will help me get back amongst the Living. Thanks for
listening. Take care. Toni

Hi Carolyn. Glad to see you decided to post. These support groups
have done wonders for my self-esteem because it made me see that I
am not alone in this world and someone else knows exactly what I’m
going thru. It’s funny, but you’re kind of in the same situation
I was in last year at this time, with having to wait for September to
arrive. My surgeon is very popular and very skilled, so when I had
my doctor’s office make an appt for me in May, I couldn’t even get in
to see him for the initial consultation until September 17th! But,
amazingly the summer flew by and 9/17 was here before I knew it, so
I’m hoping the same is true for you. And, of course, because of his
skills & popularity, that is why I couldn’t get a surgery date until
7/2/02, but I don’t mind. What is that old saying, Good things come
to those who wait, so I’m hoping that applies to me. Take care and
keep on posting. I love talking to people. Take care.

Hi everyone,

I am new to this group. I am getting evaluated right now by several different
people. As you all know those people are nutritionists, behavioral health,
lab workers etc. I am almost done with all my appointments and hopefully I
will have my surgery this year still. My question is how many of you deal
with loose skin? I mean not just a little but loose skin to the point where
you need surgery for that. This is not my main concern. I have researched and
read about all other issues. But this was hardly addressed ever.

Thank you all
Tina

Hello everyone,
I wanted to introduce myself some and ask a few questions, I have
been a member here since Nov and have been reading the posts. I have
set up an apt. with a Dr for a first consult.
He is the same dr who preformed my hubby’s RNY in August.
I am 45 and I have a bmi of 47.2 with High BP, hiatial hernia,
asthma, osteo arthuritus, anemia, enlarged heart. I also have a long
family history of diabetius. I know I need to have the RNY done, but
I am worried about having it done, if this makes scence to anyone.
I am SCARED!
Does anyone have any idea how to get over this.
Not that I have never had surgury I have had 2 c setions, but the
last one was an experiance in itself. They found a hernia in my
intestines while they were preforming the c section. This is one
reason I worry about it. The other is I had a sister who died while

having an operation for something else.

My husband does not understand at all why I am hesitating, he thinks
I am being childish.
If anyone can give me some help I would really appericiate it so much.
Thanks in advance for your help.

16. Candy Justina Says:

Goodness, Beth, it’s no wonder you have some fears associated with
surgery - any surgery. I’m surprised you made it so well through
your husband’s surgery. I guess it’s a little like having a phobia
- and the only way I know to deal with a phobia is counseling. Bless
your husband’s heart, he really doesn’t understand - and can’t -
because his experience is different. With your weight and co-morbidities,
you’re already on a fast track to poor health and an early death
(sorry to be so blunt, but I don’t think I’m telling you anything
you don’t already know) - it’s entirely possible that the surgeon
or insurance company will recommend a psyc eval (they’re pretty much
the norm) and at that point, you could ask for some counseling to
help you deal with your fears. I personally found help in realizing
that in the 1200 patients my doc did, there were only 2 deaths, and
those were due to co-morbidities, not to surgery itself. It’s ok
to ask your doc what his morbidity rates for this surgery are - BTW.

That may reassure you in itself.
Good luck, you’re in my prayers.

Pam,

Thanks so much for your understanding.
I made it thru his surgery just fine, I think I was in a daze though.
No problem for being BLUNT, I know so well how much of a headstart on
death I have.
With my insurance it does not require a Psy. evaluation, but I am
sure if the surgen thinks I need one I will get it.
Thanks again your words do help ease the worry.

Plateaus are a pain in the patootie, but at least, with mine, I can see the
body "reorganizing" itself and going down in size, even if the scales aren’t
moving.
