Hello to all……

Thursday, February 5th, 2004

How is everyone doing? I hope you are all ok. As
for me, I am doing a bit better, now, but the last
week has been crazy! I’ll make the bad stuff short. My
fiance has had his 3 year old since birth, bio mother
left the home without any word for 1 year, then pops
back in 1 1/2 years ago to get her daughter. Since
then has tried anything to get her back. SO daughter
is visiting her for court ordered july visit, and
bio mother goes for custody, AGAIN (twice this year).
We had to travel hours with only a few days
notice…Judge was on to her and supremely put her in her place.
(YEAH!) On top af all this, I have been getting one
sickness and then another…doctor says from stress…AND
I have to quit smoking still.. without gaining any
weight or I may no longer qualify for the surgery. So

Taking time off for surgery.

Thursday, February 5th, 2004

Well, I saw my the Bariatric Surgeon yesterday
and was put on the list as a candidate for surgery.
Now I have to wait for approval from the insurance
company. My insurance is excellent about this type of
surgery so I really am not concerned with the approval.
As for the pre-op testing…that should be a breeze
as well since I had a physical just a week ago and
everything seemed to be in order with all my blood work and
what not.
My situation is this. I could have the
surgery if all goes as planned as late as December or as
early as August or September. So many who are scheduled
for surgery either change their mind for one reason
or another or the pre-op testing shows cause to
delay the surgery until the patients medical condition
is stable. So…I will be put on the list to take

Family Support

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2004

Have another question.

Have any of you
dealt with negativity toward having the surgery done by
family and close friends?

I took my mom with me
to the seminar on Saturday so she could hear the
doctor talk about it as well as others that have had the
surgery done talk about their experiences. I did this so
she would support me. Turns out that’s not what
happened.

Mom went home and told dad about it and my plans of
pursuing having this done. However, today I talked to my
dad on teh phone today and he told me "No way are you
going to have that surgery done." I respect that he
cares about me but I feel this is the right thing for
me to do.

Any thoughts or comments would be
greatly appreciated.

rescheduled surgery

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2004

As of 2pm Monday, today my surgery is to be
rescheduled. Since the selling of Puget Sound hospital, I have
experienced mega stress…scheduling new appts., new
paperwork, then today finding out that the letter my
internist sent did not satisfy St Francis Hospital, one
problem, my dr wasn’t in today!!!
AAAARRRRRUUUUGGGHHHHH!!!!!!
Cindy, calm down, this is just yet another bump
in the
proverbial unpaved road of my life… I shall remain up
beat…positive in spirit, yea, oblivious to reality…I think
I’ll go pick some daisies and read some
poetry…NOT!.
Thanks for listening…
I’ll try to remember my own
matar:
If you can’t turn up the corners of your mouth….
just let the middle droop! :)
Cindy

Hi there!
I just want to share with you the
importance of trying to find a surgeon in your own area…
if you can’t find a good doctor, then I can
uderstand the need to go outside you area… but for this
surgery only half of the care is the actual surgery.
Everything else is the continuation of care, the follow-up
of appointments and a good doctor and office staff
to be available for those first few months as you
learn your new way of life. The otherside is the
importance of support. My doctor runs a weekly support group
for all his patients and any other people in our area
that may want to be involved. Although I can not
attend on a regular basis… I know it is ALWAYS there
when and if I need it! I do also use this wonderful
resource on the internet… I have met friends, and feel

Apt. with surgeon

Humana approved for me to the surgeon! I have an
appointment on July 29th. My drs. ofice told me not to get
too excited though, because Humana could still deny
the surgery. I don’t know what I will do if they deny
me after going this far. Keep your fingers crossed!

Newbie Here

I’m new to this club. I’m considering having
surgery to help me with my weight problem I’ve dealt with
all my life. I’m attending a seminar this weekend by
the doctor that does the surgery.

I have
United Healthcare POS Insurance. From what I understand
the insurance company will cover the surgery as long
as it is medically necessary. I don’t think I’ll
have a problem with this since I suffer with Sleep
Apnea and have recently been diagnosed with Pseudo
Tumor Disease.

Have most people been about to
the Psychological Evaluation approved by the
insurance company?

I have a Consultation Appointment
set up with the doc on 9/15.

Any input,
comments or suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.

Cheryl
