I have been doing lots of research the past week
and I have an appointment in the morning with my
General Practioner to dicuss the different surgeries with
him. I hope he is supportive of my choice to go with
the Surgery. I have just begun the process and would
like any information anybody has about Dr. or
insurance for people in Nebraska, (Omaha). Wish me
luck.

I am 360 lbs. 5′10" I have diabetes, High Blood
Pressure and sleep problems. With meds they are all in
check right now but I starting to notice a difference
getting around and lethergy setting in.

New to the group need some info.

I am considering having the roux-en-y surgery. I
have heard about some people loosing their hair. Does
every one who has this surgery do this and why?
Any
input that anyone can give me would really be
appreciated.

Age Limit

Friday, March 26th, 2004

Has anyone ever heard whether there is a minimum
age limit to have this surgery. My son is only 17
years old but would like to consider this surgery as he
has fought his weight since kindergarten and is now
at 280 lbs. and 6 ft. He knows it will just keep
going up and up as he has watched me fight my weight
all his life. I live in NYS but haven’t taken it upon
myself to call my surgeon. I just hate to think he has
to go that drastic of a route right
now.

Helen in NYS

I Have A Date!!!!

Friday, March 26th, 2004

It’s official- I have been scheduled for an open
RNY on March 13, 2001. I am confident in my decision,
but emotions are running amuck…LOL I know that’s
normal, though. I will be having my surgery in Reading,
PA. My surgeon is Dr. William Sweet. Thanks to all
those who have been on this journey and shared your
experiences. It has been so helpful.
Yolanda
5′4" 270#

Hi, new to the club

Thursday, March 25th, 2004

Hi everyone. I just thought I would join your
club as I think I will fit in. I just had an
adjustable gastric lapband inserted from BioE on January 10,
2001. I jumped on the scale today, and have lost
17.5lbs, so needless to say I am happy :)

take

First consultation in two weeks

Wednesday, March 24th, 2004

Hi all, I’m Doug, 30 years old, 6′4" and 500 #.
BMI of 60 or so. I have just recently come to terms
with my obesity. I have always said that I’ll loose my
weight on my own, but it’s not that easy. I was able to
quit smoking cold turkey over a year ago. But my
obesity is gonna kill me if I dont do something. My Dr.
had reccommended WLS over a year ago and I have
decided to do it. I have done alot of research, learned
alot so far. But I’m still nervous, excited and a
little scared, I’d like to hear from anyone who can help
ease my mind a little. Thanks alot.

"New" with questions about insurance

Sunday, March 21st, 2004

Hi all, how’s everyone doing? I’m new to this
site and have been reading up on WLS for a couple
months. I’ve decided to join the living and have this
surgery. I was wondering if there are any people who have
Optimum Choice Insurance and if they got approved for the
surgery? I am nervous about the whole approval process, I
have an appt. with my general practioner tomorrow and
am going to ask him for a referral to a surgeon. But
I have heard some bad stuff about Optimum Choice
insurance so I’m kinda nervous.

To tell you a
little bit about my case: I have a BMI of 38-39 (it
varies) and I have been diagnosed with Sleep Apnea, I
have had a couple years of knee pain problems and back
pain. (due to the enormousness of my breasts (44DDD), I
have tried Phen-fen (lost 40 lbs, but gained it all
(more…)
