post op
Just a quick up date I haven’t been in much, i’ll
be 4 weeks out tomorrow and i still have my g-tube.
Had another upper Gi on fri and my old stomach still
has not started working properly. My tube has just
started not to hurt, but they switched me from reglan to
erythromycin yesterday and have had nausea and dry heaves ever
since.
didn’t even have that post op. Good news is
that I’ve lost 37 pounds as of this morning, hooray!!
Dr. Sarantos and Dr. Thoburn who both did my surgery
say they have only seen this complication with the
old stomach shutting down once before, good news is
that they said eventually it will begin to work and
they said I could stop the new med and go back to the
reglan. I just hope I can get the tube out before I go
back to work Jan. 4.
Thanks for the well wishes and
good luck to everyone else. And yes even with these
few problems I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Happy Holidays to all.
lisa

had

I had an open RNY done on Aug 12, 2003 in Lubbock, Tx. My recovery
has been interesting buy very normal. Getting my staples out was a
big event. I am interested when people start back to work after this
experience.

Hi bruce and congrats. I had an open RNY on 9/27/03.
I went back to work in two and 1/2 weeks. I have a
desk job. I worked 1/2 days for the first three days
and after I fine tuned my work area, it was smooth
sailing. My bosses were very cooperative. I also got
in a lot of exercise as well. The short trips to the
fax machine, copier and the bathroom really begin to
add up. Now almost a year later, I can walk to go get
lunches, run errands out of the office, etc. It makes
my secretary nervous because she says that I’m like a
kid at recess. I want to stay outside and walk!!! By
the way, pre-surgery, I was wheelchair ridden. Good
luck. Keep in touch. I would love to see how you’re
doing.

—Darcel,
Thanks for the kind words. sounds like your RNY has really changed
you life. I visit my surgeon this Monday and so far everything looks
good. My office staff are amazed at my new eating habits, I tell
them if its more than 4 tablespoons its not going in. My daughter’s
only real concern has been the scar, but that too is healing quite
nicely.

Hi,
I am on my 5th day after surgery, starting to feel normal again. The
day after surgery was especially difficult emotionally. I have lost 7
lbs since Wed and am feeling very excited. I have been very good
about getting in 60 grams of protein powder. I have also started back
on the treadmill, which helps. I feel stronger everyday and am filled
with excitement of finally getting my life back. Dr. Wetter did my
gastric bypass and I had the support of Dr. Foster and Dr. Sanchez
while I was in the hospital. They are a great team! I had my surgery
at El Camino Hospital in Mt. View and I cannot say enough about the
expert care I received from the staff. Expecially Debbie, who was my
day nurse. Debbie and Trude Hennessey were my angels.

Hi Betty!
Glad to hear you are doing well! It has been almost 6 months since my surgery
and I have lost a total of 73 lbs. I make sure I get a B12 shot every month,
because I get pretty run by the 4th week. Know that you are on your way to a
very healthy and happy life!
Hugs,
Cheryl
