"New" with questions about insurance
Hi all, how’s everyone doing? I’m new to this
site and have been reading up on WLS for a couple
months. I’ve decided to join the living and have this
surgery. I was wondering if there are any people who have
Optimum Choice Insurance and if they got approved for the
surgery? I am nervous about the whole approval process, I
have an appt. with my general practioner tomorrow and
am going to ask him for a referral to a surgeon. But
I have heard some bad stuff about Optimum Choice
insurance so I’m kinda nervous.

To tell you a
little bit about my case: I have a BMI of 38-39 (it
varies) and I have been diagnosed with Sleep Apnea, I
have had a couple years of knee pain problems and back
pain. (due to the enormousness of my breasts (44DDD), I
have tried Phen-fen (lost 40 lbs, but gained it all
back again plus more) herbal phen-fen, slim-fast,
weight watchers, redux, meredia, phentermine, and
several other diets. So what do ya think? Do I have a
case?? Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Suzie:

Can’t give you too much input
about your insurance, I am sorry to say……but when
you eventually get to a doctor make sure to
"write-down" ALL problems you are experiencing due to your
weight, plus all the diet you have tried. You didn’t
mention starvation which should be included as I am sure
you tried that one the same way we all have. I listed
every diet I could remember and I was amazed when I had
nearly filled a sheet with all the diets I had tried and
failed at. Every ache and pain you are experiencing
should be listed because I am sure they are ALL be
contributed to by your weight. Best of luck and let us all
know what is happening.

Helen (Surgery

Thanks for replying and yes I have tried
starvation as well as many other little fly by night diets
that I did not list on my post. I just met with my PCP
yesterday and he was extremely nice about giving me the
referral to the surgeon. I have an appt. on April 4th.
Yeah!! The girl at the surgeon’s office and I were
talking and I mentioned that my insurance was gonna be a
pain in the butt about it, and she said "well then I
guess we will have to just contact the Attorney General
about that" well, that was just what I wanted to hear.
I’m so glad she didn’t just say "oh, well we can just
give it a shot" it really sounds like with perservance
I will prevail. Wish me luck. I’ve been so nervous
lately about my appt with my PCP that I haven’t been
able to eat anything. That’s a first!! I was actually
worried that I had lost weight and he would turn me down.
That’d be my luck, I’ll be so nervous about meeting with
the surgeon that I’ll lose weight before I ever get
there and then I’ll only be 80 lbs. over weight and not
qualify. Like 80 lbs. is any different than 100 lbs. Well
when I went to the doctor yesterday I hadn’t lost any,
of course I wore my heavy boots just in case. Well I
guess I’d better be going. I’ll start making that list
of diets so I’ll be ready. The surgeon’s office was
happy to hear that I have diagnosed Obstructive Sleep
Apnea too. (kinda weird to hear someone say, "glad to
hear it, it’ll help your case") I don’t know just
thought I’d throw that in. Have a great day and thanks
for the advise. I’ll keep you posted.

Suzie
