First consultation in two weeks
Hi all, I’m Doug, 30 years old, 6′4" and 500 #.
BMI of 60 or so. I have just recently come to terms
with my obesity. I have always said that I’ll loose my
weight on my own, but it’s not that easy. I was able to
quit smoking cold turkey over a year ago. But my
obesity is gonna kill me if I dont do something. My Dr.
had reccommended WLS over a year ago and I have
decided to do it. I have done alot of research, learned
alot so far. But I’m still nervous, excited and a
little scared, I’d like to hear from anyone who can help
ease my mind a little. Thanks alot.

thanks for supporting me. You know, I’m sure I’m
not alone in this, I never let my weight keep me from
doing anything. I still play softball and ride my atv,
and go out all the time. Sure it is uncomfortable in
theaters, and I dont eat in reasturants with booths for
seating, but I really dont let the obesity slow me down.
(MUCH) I think thats why alot of my friends are not sure
what to think about my decision. They dont see my
pain, or know that I feel like a big fat turd
(sometimes). How do I convince people, who dont see me as
unhealthy, that I’m afraid of not living a full life? Some
of them dont seem to get it.

That can be a problem. I was pretty active until
this summer when it all caught up with me.<br>To the
ones who aren’t close friends I make a joke about it,
"I needed a vacation", "I had nothing better to do,
so I signed up for major surgery", my personal
favorite "So I lose enough weight to whup your a** even
more than I do now!"<br>To my close friends I tell
them -There is a 100%chance of my having serious
problems(diabetes,high blood pressure,arthrits type problems,joint
degeneration, stroke) as I get older, and a 10-20% chance of problems
with the surgery. I need this." <br>These are some
lines. Bottom line is, its your life, it would be nice
if they understood now, but believe me,once you lose
the weight, then they will definitely see the
light!(you won’t be blocking it! :-)LOL <br>I educate those
who ask,and some people –just let it go-they aren’t
worth the aggravation.

Hi Doug! I’m 25, 6′ and about 500 lbs. I have,
after many months of research, decided to have the
surgery myself. I have started the process and was quite
nervous about the whole thing as well. I had a chance to
speak with the surgeon who will be doing the operation
(when it’s scheduled) and that did a lot in calming
come of my fears.<br><br>I would suggest to you to
take the first step and contact the surgeon of your
choice. I know that once I did the nervous feeling went
away, but I doubt I will ever stop being excited and a
bit scared about this whole adventure until well
after it is over!
