New to the group need some info.
I am considering having the roux-en-y surgery. I
have heard about some people loosing their hair. Does
every one who has this surgery do this and why?<br>Any
input that anyone can give me would really be
appreciated.

Yes, I think most people do lose SOME hair. But,
it is rare to lose enough hair that you need a wig
or anything that drastic. Keeping up your protein
intake will help to some degree, as does taking your
vitamin supplements, but you still may have some hair
loss from three to six months after surgery. They say
that the shock to your system of the surgery and the
dramatic change in eating habits makes some of the hair
folicles shut down temporarily. The good news is, it does
grow back, so don’t worry too much about this!

I experienced hair loss after surgery. It is the
dramatic loss of weight and change in your system that
makes hair loss. BUT, I did not become bald and it has
grown back in with no problem. I also didn’t care if I
was bald….as long as the weight came off. But, rest
assured you do not become a skin-head. Use of a protein
based shampoo helps the hair stay healthy too.
