pre-op visit

Sunday, May 23rd, 2004

Hello every one, I have enjoyed reading all the
postings in here. I have been waitingn 4 long months since
I was given my surgery date and it’s almost here. I
go in on Wendsday for my pre-op tests, then on May
31st I have my surgery if everything checks out. I
have been wanting this surgery for the past 4 years,
and now that the time is near I’m getting
scard.

I am 378 pounds as of my last doctors visit. He
thinks I should be able to get down to about 200 pounds.
It’s been at lest 15 years since I was that low. I’m
so looking forward to being able to run after and
play with my 3 year old with out having to sit and
rest.

One of the quistions I have is how long does it take
to recover and get back on your feet? I’m a
full-time student and will be having surgery 2 weeks before

Diet question

Saturday, May 22nd, 2004

I’ve got acouple of diet questions. Someone gave
me a copy of a diet they got from their doctor. It
says that you can go to 800 calories after the
surgery. How long does it take before you can go up to a
more reasonable amount? or is 800 enough after the
surgery?

And a last one. How does the DR decide how much of
the stomach to remove or clamp? I’m curious about
this as if he takes too much, and you’re eating too
few calories, the stomach would start eating itself
after most of the fat has been used for
energy.

Thanks

GRIEVANCE - Step One

Friday, May 21st, 2004

My insurance woes continue. A supervisor from the
Benefits Dept. called me back. I was prepared. I had typed
a letter to him because once you’re on the phone
it’s sometimes hard to put into words how you feel. I
had also looked through my handbook and found that I
could use this as my grievance letter. He had me fax it
to him and he would check out the proper channels to
pursue. He said he could not delete the "Pre-exist"
clause himself, but he wasn’t saying that it couldn’t be
done either. I asked why my case was in a "holding
pattern", neither denied or preapproved. He said because of
the clause and he had me fax the letter directly to
him. That was yesterday. He seemed sincere. One of the
first to. I don’t want to get my hopes up…he seemed
to understand my frustration of being bounced

SUCCESSFUL SURGERY!!!

Hi, I’m back on-line after having my Surgery April 30th. I feel great and have
already lost 20 lbs.

Back from meeting the surgeon

Tuesday, May 18th, 2004

Hello everyone! Well, it looks like my wait is
going to be even longer. My surgeon wants me to quit
smoking before he does this. He was a very nice man. Of
course I didn’t hear about 20 min. of what he had to say
after he told me I would have to stop smoking. I’ve
been wanting to, it’s just frightning. My wonderful
other half is going to quit with me..isn’t that nice.
Well, they told me that is could take up to 10 weeks
depending on how fast the insurance is processed. I’ll let
everyone know when I get a date. I have so many more
questions and need to call back, but I hate to. I loved
that they had big chairs throughout all of the
building. I’m still scared to death about having this done,
but I want it.
I have a quick question that I
need to ask you guys. Someone told me that they saw a

Insurance Policy

Monday, May 17th, 2004

I don’t think I am understanding my policy
correctly. Or else they are making it difficult to. Okay, my
lapse of insurance is more than 63 days. Now, even
though I have never requested this surgery before, and
there are other medical reasons for having the surgery
(possiible double knee surgery, urine incontinence, weak
ankles (whereby I fall quite often), depression, etc.),
is it still considered pre-existing?? Or does this
apply to any surgery that there is an existing waiting
period of one year? I have BC/BS PPO. Does anyone else
have this and can they possible clarify this?

Denied By Insurance Carrier

Monday, May 17th, 2004

Well it happened. I got the letter in the mail
the other day and Coventry is not going to cover my
RnY or any other weight loss method. The day i got my
letter my Dr. had called and said that he has already
scheduled a appeal with Coventry. That was before I had
even called anyone. We have an appeal set for June 6
and my surgeon and PCP will both be there. I am not
hoping for much!!! Today I sent a letter to my Employeer
stating my disgust with thier choose of insurance
providers. The insuracne co. wants to hear any other
information the Dr or Surgeon or I have. Anybody having any
helpful hints please contact me!!!

Greg
