Obesity surgery

The insurance company has been giving me the run
around. What’s new. Anyways… as I mentioned, they said
I have a pre-existing clause. So I got them the
paperwork they needed to life this, or at least I thought I
did. Also, my PCP faxed a supportive letter with
medical reasons for needing this surgery. Today, I called
to see if they got the fax. They said no. So then I
get a fax from the insurance company. A
predetermination form. So I filled out my portion and faxed the
form the Nurse Connie. She called me and asked if June
14 was okay for a surgery date. So what does this
mean? Apparently, it is still not approved but they
need a date? I am confused and every time I call the
insurance company I am getting a different rep so their
story is different every time. One tells me I have to

I have BCBS PPO coverage which began on April 1,
2001. I had APA prior to this, but there was a three
months lapse — due to probation period with new
company. So my claim has a pre-existing "HOLD" on my
approval. The way I understand it is they go back one year
to check previoius coverage. If that is the case,
then I will have 9 months of the previous coverage to
go toward a 12 month existing period??? My coverage
started on April 1, so another months will get applied,
so that makes two more months….does anyone know
anything about this??? Yes, my weight is pre-existing.
HOwever, my gall bladder, knee and ankle problem are not.
During my three months waiting period I was waitressing
and the stress on my knees became too painful to
work. I had to quit. Please help on how to proceed in

Well the coward made it :>)- All did not go as
expected though. I asked for and was promised some
sedation as soon as I went in but noone would give me any
until the surgeon had me sign my final consent. As a
result I got some just as they put me under at 4:00 PM.
I was woken up at 6 P.M and asked some stupid
questions like did I know my name and was I experiencing
any pain. All I cared was I was alive and GET ME
DRUGS!!!!!!!!. By the time I saw my wife in my room on the ward
I guess I looked very alert and was coherent. Susan
looked worse than me as from the time they took me away
at 3:15 until she found me on the ward she received
no updates on how I was or where I was. She looked
so exhausted I sent her home as it is a 45 minute
drive at night and she looked pretty tired.<br><br>A

Hey guys….I just thought i’d stop in and let
you all know that I got my approval today. The
insurance company called me this afternoon tolet me know i
was approved….im sooooooooo excited..they are going
to call me and set up mysurgery date…now i need to
get my upper GI and my ultrasound….cant wait…talk
to you all soon….marla

I saw the surgeon on Friday. He is so great. What
a wonderful person. He says I’m a good candidate.
He said his assistant would call when the approval
comes through. I said my family doctor was writing a
letter of recommendation and I also had a letter, proof
of previous insurance and picture to send, etc. He
said they would go ahead without my other doctor’s
letter. He didn’t see a problem getting it approved.
We’ll see. After all I’ve heard…the nightmares, I
just know something is going to happen. How long
should I wait to call and see if they need anything or
let them know how anxious I am! I know everyone is
and I don’t want to bogg down their office flow by
pestering them. Or should I call the insurance company. I’m
afraid that I’ll jinx myself. I asked them how long it

Has everyone had to have an Evaluation before surgery?? My surgery is in 9 days
and I havent been told of having to have one…

There was a cancelation.. so I got my surgery date .. 12 days to get everything
in order… COUNT DOWN has started..

ok guys….there is definitely a problem when
insurance companies dont want to pay for the wls in hopes
that we will die before they have to treat our
illnesses that we are sure to get from the morbid obesity.
I dont know about you all…but im soooooo angry
about this.Ive had nothing but trouble from my
insurance company…we need to stand together and do

I’m not sure what anyone’s situation is….but I
understand that there is money to be had concerning this
surgery. There are stipulations in the one I read about.
In this one case, it had to do with an obese
person’s weight hindering their job productivity. If that
is the case for anyone, you might want to check out
your state vocational rehabilitation department. It’s
worth looking into. This unit is interested in getting
people jobs and/or keeping them. It may be
worthwhile……
