on the other side now!

Hello everyone, it is nice to be on the other
side now! I had my surgery on Thursday May 31, just
over a week ago. I have been having some problems with
puss at my staple line. I called my doctors office and
they had me come on Wednesday. Eighteen of my 37
staples were detached and the next thing I see is my
Doctors hand reaching in to my tummy to look for an
infection. The good news was there was no internal
infection; only bright red sores and puss were the staples
were. I am then told it could take an addition month to
heal from being opened up in the office and to keep to
bed rest until I return to the office on Monday. I
have a daughter nearly 4 years old…bed rest? What is
that! Anyway, I would like to know if this has happened
to anyone other then my self, if so how did you deal

with it. My staple line still has pussy matter coming
out and stings pretty bad. The good news I got on
Wednesday is that I had already lost 14 pounds in the first
6 days!!! This keeps me going as I know the pain
will be gone soon, but any help getting to that point
would be so nice.

Hugs,
Dorothy
pre-op

Dorothy, I too have an infection, but mild, and
my doc didn’t use staples but glue. So, I have a
mild pull apart (1/8 in of about 3 in long) that is a
touch infected. I take liquid augmentin antibiotic and
peroxide and rub antibiotic ointment (prescribed) on my
wound 2x daily when I peroxide. I would get someone to
come and take care of your little munchkin, relative
or friend, or even short term daycare, until you get
    through this
As far as his hand in there, YUCK! The
worst I had to deal with was the wood stick end of a
wooden handled q-tip. That was gross enough for me! Keep
that protein up, drink diluted citrus for vitamin c
and rest. Maybe a warm heating pad (not hot!) would
bring the infection to the surface faster, I know it
works with warm wet rags, and they told us to take lots

of nice warm/hot showers to bring any
infection/drainage out in our surgery docs office, but you probably
don’t want to use wet, especially in bed!
Keep us
posted! This too shall pass and GREAT weight
    loss!
HUGS!!
Cathy

I went back to my doctors office today!!! Now I’m
down 24 pounds, and it’s only been 12 days. They
removed the last of my stapels and the infection did set
in a bit more were they removed the other
stapels…but Doc said it should only take about 2 weeks to
heal all the way and there will be no scar. I then
went to see the nutrition services department. I’m now
on a pureed diet and get to have soft food too…The
first thing I had was Strawberrys and string chesse,
boy I never know how good they tasted before! I
bought a 2 pound basket of strawberrys I ate 2 and my
daughter had all the rest, but the 2 were so good! Salmon
for dinner tonight, cant wait! Thank you everyone for
being here to lend help and sound off so we all can
hear and know what is going

    on.

Hugs,
Dorothy
post-op May 31, 2001 343 pounds (down 24!)
