Have referral to UCLA
I have a referral for consult with Dr.
Livingstons group at UCLA. There they do the RNY, and my
appointment is set for November 29th, 2001.
Personally, I
would prefere the Distal Gastric bypass with duodenal
switch. There is a Dr. Anthone at USC that does this
procedure. I have an appointment with him in
August.
Going to USC, means a higher cost for me. That is
unless I can find a Medical Group or IPA to referre me
to him.
Is anyone familar with DR. Anthone. Any
information would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks,
Dottie

Dottie, one thing to ask your surgeon and
something mine said, the Duodenal Switch causes excessive
STINKY gas. I don’t mean like normal gas, I mean FOUL
stenchish gas and BM’s because of the food not being
processed in the intestines enough. So ask about it, it is
something that might make a difference to you.
Take care
and let us know what your surgeon says.
Cathy

Thank you Cathy for the information. I had heard
about the stinky gas and BM’s. But, thank you again for
the reminder.
It is hard to remain objective. I
find myself overlooking the negative aspects of having
WLS.
With the RNY, there is a higher incidence of vomiting
and diahrea. The Doudenal Switch has more chances of
nutritional deficeincy and smelly gas.
I keep looking at
the long-term results of weight loss. Possibly, going
back to work, decrease in sleep apnea, more energy to
spend time doing things with my children, ect.
With
so many benefits, it is hard to remember the
complications. Thank you again for your thoughts.
God bless
you all.

Dottie

havn’t vomited once. I guess I am just an RNY kinda girl!
Take
care!
Cathy

Hello T,
I really appreciate your input. I am
pretty much leading toward the bpd/ds. I do like the
idea of keeping the pyloric valve. Also, the rny
requires too many food restrictions. Who did your surgery?
I have an appt. with Dr. Anthone at USC in August.
I am keeping my fingers crossed that this will
happen for me.

Thanks again,
Dottie

Hi Dottie,

I had my surgery done in Dayton
With Dr Maguire. I can tell ya with the BPD.. You will
be amazed the food you can eat and how you can still
loose. I get together with other BPD patients all the
time.. At first I was shock by what they can eat.. Your
in my prayers and thoughts that you can have the
surgery you want and get your approval soon..

T
