Thanks to everyone who replied. Everyone's
support and stories help me so much. I am going to wait
as long as I can to tell my mom that I am definately
going through with it. I just have to remind her(she
forgets sometimes)that I am a 29 year old adult and I
make my own decisions and that this is my decision to
make my life happier and that she will just have to
accept it. She is just the type of person who tries to
talk people out of doing things that she thinks they
should not do.My husband is scared for me but he is such
a wonderful person and he told me to do whatever
makes me happy, he loves me no matter what, and that
helps alot. You guys are great! Thanks

Stacy, you stick to your guns. When I was 27 this surgery was not even an
option. Now I'm 40 and practically disabled. If you've worked with your dr. and
had no success, now's the time.

That is my biggest pet peve. People saying "you
tried this and you lost weight" for about 3 months..
then boom.. its back. As soon as they can stop
breathing, or drinking water, or quit smoking cold turkey
from 2 packs a day, they know what we've been
through.

Mark

I understand what you are saying about people
saying "why don't you just diet?" HELLO -- been there --
tried and tried again. They don't realize how difficult
it is for some of us. Or how hard we are on
ourselves over it. We deserve this chance. I can't wait to
be on the other side!

hi kajunhunny, I havnt posted in here in a
while, but i read your post and i had to comment. My father
acted the exact same way when i told him about my
decision to have the surgery. He was mortified that I would
consider doing something like this just to lose weight. He
is a very negative person by nature and just thought
i was going to ruin my life by not being able to
"enjoy" food as he calls it.I explained to him that there
is soooo much more to life than eating and thati
wasnt really living ...i was only existing.I had the
surgery done 5/22/01(my rebirthday) and im doing
wonderful...ive lost 25 pounds and i know im on my way to a
better quality of life.Your mom will either except it
because its something that you want more than anything in
this world or she wont...but either way this is for

you and nobody else, so you are the one that needs to
be comfortable with the surgery and do it for
you!!!!! I wish you all the best and your mom will come
around.Life on the other side is great and you deserve to be
a part of it!!!!! take care, marla post op 5/22/01

Thank you so much Brandy, I am starting to learn
a little more about it and I know being in this
group will help alot. My mom is the only one who is
freaking out about this, she can't understand why I can't
just lose weight on a diet, well hello I have tried
every diet known to man and it has not helped. She will
eventually come around and I know that when she realizes how
happy I am and how much more healthy I am she will be
ok with it. Most of my friends and other family
thinks it is a great thing for me to do.
Thanks for
any advice!
Stacy

I know how you feel.I'm scared to have this done
too. I'm always thinking I'm going to die during
surgery..(uplifting isn't it) but it must not be bothering me that
much because I'm going to go ahead through it. I'm
getting more and more excited now. I haven't got a date
scheduled yet, but I know that it won't be too far away.
(hopefully) I think that joining this club and being able to
ask so many questions has helped me with my fear. I
now realize that I will be able to have a life after
the surgery. It seems like everyone I mention this to
think I'm crazy for having it done. I hope I can prove
them wrong. I really don't want to hear "I told you
so" We'll see though. So, I guess what I wanted to
tell you was that my way of getting through my fear
was to just keep talking about it. Asking questions

and talking. Hope you overcome it.
Brandy
