Home after Surgery!!!!

Thursday, June 10th, 2004

Well I made it through surgery and the after care
in the hospital. I had a hard time in recoverery
because my epideral (spinal block) did not work, the my
regular IV’s would not work….But that was Thursday and
this is Sunday, I’m home and happy! The hard think for
me is only being able to take in 30cc’s at a time, I
LOVE ice water and love to gulp it…but have to slow
that down :) I know I can do it. The pain is not as
bad as I thought it would be, you just have to get up
and walk right away. I was walking the halls 10 hours
after I was taken in for the surgery prep. Thank you
every one that has been posting, It helps to keep me
going.<br><br>Hugs to all,<br>Dorothy

Post ops - What are you eating?

Wednesday, June 9th, 2004

Hi everyone! I finally have my confirmed surgery
date (June 18th) which is 2 weeks away. Of course I am
terribly nervous, excited and all of the other things that
are associated with such a huge life change. I want
to make sure that I am ready for my post op care.
I’ve seen a few postings from all of you about what
you eat post op (and when) and would like to get more
info from you about it. One of the things that has
seemed the most cotroversial is how to get protein. Are
you drinking shakes? If so, what kind/brand? Do you
have any that you recommend? When did you go off of sf
popsicles and broth and start drinking them (or did you
immediately following surgery)? When did you go back on
regular food? Sorry for the random questions, but I feel
like this is the one area that I do not have enough

need patience. Have a great day!

vocational rehabilitation

Saturday, June 5th, 2004

hi guys, I met a girl in the hospital where I had
my RNY who was extremely obese and was working as a
nurse’s aide. She mentioned to me that she wished she
could have the surgery, and I asked why she couldnt,
and she said that her insurance would not cover it.
Being the social worker gal, I immediately wanted to
help her. I could also tell that she was in a lot of
pain due to her feet, and she was very winded doing
relatively non strenuous tasks. here’s the point (finally)
Does anyone have info re vocational rehabilitation
paying for the surgery? Her work is absolutely affected,
I felt bad having her wait on me when I was one day
post-op, I wanted to help her do her job because I could
see that she was in misery. She does not have
internet access so I want to take her some info when i go

Saturday, June 5th, 2004

Hey Kim, I hope everything goes o.k for you. What
is it that your insurance is going through? I’m
still waiting to hear something. I called yesterday,
but got a machine and I was told that if I was
checking my status then I would be called back within 48
hours. I can’t wait. I want to know what is going on so
bad. Talk to everyone later.<br>Brandy

Newbee here. Fed up with feeling so bad!

Thursday, June 3rd, 2004

Aloha good people! Here in Cali making it through
nursing school. One of my patients said,"how can a person
who advocates health be so unhealthy?"<br>I kept my
nurse bearing and simply replied, "well, weight is a
very complicated and personal subject, and if
anything, I am just a very "healthy" person!" He chuckled
and then apologized. I later offered him a suggestion
to learn more about the disease of
obesity.(library,etc.) Anyway, I’m here to find out info on different
surgeries. I am bummin big time and am tired of not feeling
good. I see a psychologist<br>who seems against it,
although she hasn’t said it I feel it. Just searching!
Thank you all!

approval date vs. surgery date

Thursday, June 3rd, 2004

Has anyone had their approval date really close
to their surgery date. How long will the surgeon’s
office hold that date for you? I am slated for surgery
on June 14 and I’m still waiting for approval. I
would appreciate any input from those that this has
happened to and what I can do about it.
