advice,support please!!!!!

ok everyone. I am 7 days post op. I unfortunately
do not feel as wonderful as others have posted. As a
matter of fact I am feeling pretty darn crappy! Aside
from the pain, I get indigestion no matter what I put
in my mouth. Anyway, my real reason for this post is
it is so hard for me seeing others around me eating
the foods I love & knowing that I can’t have them!!!!
I may in the future, but for now I live life filled
with pudding, instant breakfast, yogurt & jello! It is
hell going in the freezer & seeing all of the food I
have in there that I didn’t get a chance to eat
before! I know that in the long run I made that right
decision but I am really wondering what I got myself into

New Life Minus 40 Days!

Friday, July 23rd, 2004

I’ve been lurking for a bit, but I’m coming out
of the closet today. Hi, my name is Patrice and I’m
26 years old. I live in South Orange County with my
4.5 year old daughter. I’ve been overweight my entire
life and I’ve had enough of it. I can’t continue to
try things that aren’t working. I’m not an overeater
by "normal" standards which is why I’ve always
pushed off the thought of surgery. However, I’ve done
the nutritional counseling thing and I’ve seen the
little plastic foods. I eat more than that, but who eats
portions that small anyway? I realized that while what I
eat may be normal, but it affects me in a way that it
doesn’t affect other people. Oh well, it took me over 6
years to reach the decision to do this and I’m going
full steam ahead!

I’m going to try and put a

Hi everyone, I just found this wonderful board. I
am scheduled to have the open rny surgery with Dr.
Kane/Dr. Rantis at the Alexian Brothers Hospital in Elk
Grove, Illinois. I am from Kouts, Indiana. I am having
so many mixed emotions right now. I am nervous,
excited, scared and everything other emotion you can think
of. I am glad I found this board so I can have people
in my situation to talk to. I am looking for to
talking with all of you.
Melanie in Indiana :)

ANY CANADIANS?

Tuesday, July 20th, 2004

I have just joined your group and thought I’d say
HI instead of just lurking in the shadows.I am 5′10"
and weigh 350lbs.I’ve been searching all the wls
sites I can find to really be sure when I approach my
Dr about referring me to someone for this
surgery.Fortunately in Ontario it is completely paid for by our
OHIP(Ontario Health Insurance Plan)coverage and any subsequent
surgery to remove any unwanted skin or "flabby bits".I
was wondering if there were any Canadians that
had,had it done and if they could tell me about their
experiences. In all the searches I’ve done there doesn’t seem to
be much in the way of negative feedback or bad
experiences so I’m assuming that most of those cases are
because of severe health risks anyway.right?Thank you for
letting me say hi and I really enjoy this site.

not fat enough!

Tuesday, July 20th, 2004

Hi! Well I’m on medicaid in the state of
Arizona.I talked wls over with my doctor and she agreed to
submit it to the insurance company.I had to get their
okay before i can even see a surgeon.I weigh 248 and
am 5′5.I have high cholesterol that’s not responding
to meds.I have fibromyalgia and the extra weight is
severely aggravating it.I haven’t had a period in over two
years and my doc has ruled out everything and has said
that it is due to my weight.I have chest pain and my
doc also thinks that it is related to my weight.Heart
disease runs in my family.Anyway my doc submitted the
request to the insurance and within a week they sent me a
denial.Based on the fact that i wasn’t fat enough. They said
that i need to be at least 150 pounds overweight.I
actually laughed….I have never in my life been told that

Hello! Will your doctor go to review with you? I
guess I’m not really that close to mine. I haven’t been
to her that much, just since my decision for wls
started. Well, i hope you hear some good news
soon.

Brandy

Sounds like you have everything

Monday, July 19th, 2004

Hi sspearance! It really sounds like you have
everything under control. It gave me somethings to think
about getting. I can’t afford to get everything at once
so this will help. Thanks!

what do you know
about the shower? I have a tub that you have to go up
one step then down in (garden tub) it has a shower
with it, but do you know if the step up will effect me
at all? Just wondering!

Brandy

RNY vs VBG

Sunday, July 18th, 2004

Hello. My Doctor is a big fan of Vertical Banded
Gastroplasty, vs the RNY. From what I’ve seen RNY has a better
weight loss, as well as long term success. Ive also
heard that there aren’t as many nutritional issues, as
well as no dumping with the VBG. Anyone know if this
is true? Also, almost all the stories on the web are
about RNY. I’m having surgery Aug 6, and my pre-op
physical in about a week and a half, so I need to decide
soon.

Thanks
Mark
