I have changed my mind all together…..

I have concidered this bariatric surgury for a
few years now I had my approval most eveything now, I
will not do it… we have funeralized a freind 8/08/01
due to complications she had since April 2001… she
never has been the same since the weight loss surgury..
she was 375lbs and due to all the problems died at
180lbs SINCE APRIL 2001…. A wonderful women attractive
with children and a boyfriend that said he loved her
for being herself….. SUCH A TOTAL LOSS… Now
before this girls funeral we was wondering why another
friend lives out of state died so suddenly… due to the
weight lost we all assumed the big disease with the four
letters… but this girl wanted it to be a suprise to us she
would come back to our hometown 200lbs lighter. they
too never recovered. she had surgury August 2000 and

was Dead January 2001… her family was so angry
behind her sudden death, they did not know she was going
to suprise us all with the weight loss. this is
horrible. This girls family made a plea at the girls
funeral yesterday saying the we must love ourself first
then I f we want to lose weight , let it be a way of
life a lifestyle change and change our eating habits.
I will be going to weight watchers and get to a
track to do much needed walking. I can not do this
after all has happened to 2 friends. God bless you all
that have decided to continue on with this surgury. Be
prayerful before going into this… Know what you are
getting yourself into……..

I am so sorry for your loss. YOur decision is
right for you. Understand, there may have been
complications not due to the surgery that we will never know
about. Research is our best tool. Not just about the
surgery, about the physician doing the surgery. We do not
know how these people followed the guidelines after
surgery. Did they have problems before the surgery due to
the obesity? I am part of a support froup for people
who have had surgery here in Florida and as far as I
know my doctor has never ahd anyone die after surgery.

I am not trying to change your mind, I am just
saying you need to get all the facts before you blame
the surgery itself for these deaths.

For some
people diet and exercise are just not enough
    anymore.

God Bless you for your

    honesty.

Phyliss
Surgery 12/14/1999
306/156

I appreciate you sharing this information. It is
important to realize the risks involved. As an RN, I have
taken care of a patient that had WLS. This patient
developed an intra-abdominal abscess. She died about 2
weeks after surgery. She was about the same age and
size that I am. To begin with she went to a small town
hospital. How many procedures like this had her surgeon
done? I will see one that is a leader in the feild.
Also, what was the persons pre-op health. I could die
in my sleep and not wake-up due to sleep apnea. This
is scary. Doctors say that I must lose my excess
weight. When weighing all the risks and benefits, I opt
for the surgery. I am to young to die. I will do what
I can to live a fuller and happier life.
I know
this is a very personal decision that we each have to

make. May God guide you in making the decision that is
    right for you.
