gastroplasty

Hi, I met with a doctor in Nova Scotia, Canada
last week to discuss gastroplasty. I am wondering what
a realistic weight loss would be for me. I weigh
283 pounds right now. I will probably be having
sugery in November and would like to get the info from
people who have actually HAD the surgery.

Gastroplasty is stomach stapling which is the
VBG, vertical banded gastroplasty. I had that done
6-97 and lost from 364 to 212 and had regained 80 lbs
up to 295. I had the RNY done 6-29-01 in hopes to
make it to goal. With the VBG I vomited all the time
from eating nutritious foods, highly refined carbs
went through so i ate those hence the wt gain. So,
gastroplasty did not work for me. Check out the
www.obesityhelp.com site and fine what others have to say.<br>Vicki

I am a 28 year old, married mother of one, who is waiting to have
VBG done at the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax, NS. I have
met with Dr. Allan MacDonald, who has approved me as a candidate for
the surgery. I currently weigh approximately 270 lbs. and feel
horrible. I suffer from Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, which
contributes mostly to my excessive weight (although occasional
binges don’t help either), and the only way to control the syndrome
is to lose weight, but at the same time, the syndrome messes up your
insulin regulation which makes weight loss difficult. Go figure!!!
I have thought long and hard about having this procedure, and I am
ready!!! The hardest part now is the wait to see an
Endrocrinologist, which is manditory in order to have the surgery
covered by our provincial health insurance. I have been told the
wait can be up to six months just to see the Endrocrinologist!!!
Then, you have to wait for an OR time to be booked, and if emergency

surgeries come up and they need OR time, the VBG patients are the
first to be cancelled (so I am told). I am looking for people in
Nova Scotia who have had this done recently to talk to, to help me
cope with the possible long wait. How long did it take after the
initial meeting with Dr. MacDonald until the actual surgery date?
I’d love to hear anyone’s stories, no matter where you are from. I
have been searching the web and have read a lot of success
stories!!! What are the secrets, if there are any, to achieving
maximum weight loss post op? I am determined to get down to the
recommended weight based on my height, which is 135-150 lbs. That’s
quite a chunk of weight to me, but I have read stories of people who
have lost more than I need to lose. I’m looking for any and all
tips, and also to meet people who I can turn to for guidance and
advice….real people who have ‘been there, done that’.

I look forward to any responses to my plea!!!

    Thanks!
