Medications

The only person that responded to "Any regrets"
was Ice. Does that mean that everyone else who has
had the surgery is happy with the
results?

Also I wanted to ask another question. Did those of
you who had surgery have other illnesses that you
were on medications for prior to the surgery. What
percent and types of your illnesses were helped, and what
percent of your medications were you able to get off
of?
Thanks.
Sami

I had the surgery on Sept. 25th and have lost 45
lbs. I had sleep apnea and last week, I slept without
the mask for the first time in almost a year!
Although this is a huge transition with a lot of
adjustments, I would definitely do it again.

HEY now lookie here…..I didnt say I wasnt HAPPY
with the results..I am very happy with the
-40lbs…..I just have days that I would rather be pre op
again…no pain…no food restrictions…just eat what I
want…the question here is …..am I the only HONEST one
here??? Unless you have a picture perfect surgery and NO
complications and textbook case…noone in here can say that
atleast not once did it cross there mind that they had
been crazy enough to alter themselves in this way. I
DO NOT REGRET MY WLS! I just regret the bad
days!

Just clarifying things!
LOL
Ice

3. Neva Marjory Says:

Hey Ice, that’s exactly the way I took your message.

4. Neva Marjory Says:

I am glad to hear this answer from you. I am on
many medications and injections, and I have been told
that I have a good chance of getting off of most of
them. I just wanted to hear that someone else was
having good results getting off medications too.
Sami

Ice is so right!!! There have been many days that
I wish I felt like I did before surgery, but those
days are much less often then before. :) I am now 5
months post-op and feel GREAT! I have lost 105 pounds as
of last week. I can move so much better then before,
I don’t get tired all the time and rarely do I get
short of breath. I started out at 366 pounds the day of
surgery and now I 261 pounds. I had 2 people in the pas
24 hours tell me that I was "thin" now. I don’t
think I will every feel that way but it’s so nice. I
would have this done all over again if I had to. I did
have some problems after surgery and wished I felt
better but it’s behind me now! As for medications I’m
still on the two I was on before surgery, but I do NOT
have to use my CPAP any longer! I wish you the best no

mater what you chouse to
do.

Hugs,
Dorothy
Open RYN May 31, 2001
All time height

Dorothy I really do appreciate you guys giving me
some hard honest answers. I know its not going to be
all roses, but I don’t want to lose site of the
reality that will come for at least the first month after
surgery. I haven’t heard anyone at the support meetings
say the first month was good.
By the way what is a
CPAP?
Thanks.
Sami

7. Neva Marjory Says:

Hi

I am 5 wks postop, went to the surgeons
office today. I have lost a total of 48 lbs from 397 to
349.
I started retaking my Thyroid medication about 2
wks postop and continue to do so.
I have not
taken my glucophage for diabetes since before surgery.
I periodically check my sugar, but it seems to be
fine for now :)
I am still at the stage where
others notice the weight loss more than I do
:)

huggggggggggs

Kim

PS: ALthough i wished i did not have
the surgery the
first 2 days postop, after that…… I have no regrets
(other than wishing i could eat half a pizza, ROFL, but
its a wishful thought, not a craving)

Kim;
WOW 48 lbs in 5 weeks. It must just be
amazing.
At 5 weeks what kinds of activities can you
do?
When you first came home did you need anyone with you?
My husband says he wants to stay home for as long as
I need him to help. I don’t even know if you come
home needing help.
I do plan on stopping by Books A
Million and getting the new book by Carnie Wilson - Gut
Feeling. I hear its pretty good, but I do want to read
it.
How much craving do you still have?
Sami

9. Neva Marjory Says:

CPAP IS A MACHINE THAT HELPS YOU SLEEP BETTER IF
YOU HAVE SLEEP APNEA. I AM 46 DAYS POST OP AND I JUST
STARTED TO USE MY CPAP WHEN I WENT IN FOR SURGERY AND IT
HAS MADE A BIG DIFFERENCE IN MY LIFE. I USE TO GET UP
EVERY HOUR AT NIGHT JUST TO PEE AND I SNORED SO LOUD IT
WAS AWFUL. NOW I SLEEP ALL NIGHT AND DO NOT SNORE AT
ALL. PLUS I NO LONGER FALL ASLEEP DURING THE DAY OR
WHEN I AM DRIVING. I LOVE MY CPAP BUT CANNOT WAIT TO
GET RID OF IT.

I HAVE LOST 61 LBS BUT I JUST
DON’T REALLY SEE IT. BUT AM EXTREMELY HAPPY AND AM
STRIVING TO HIT 100 LBS BY CHRISTMAS.

Sami
Now at 5 wks i can do almost anything. I
still may get a bit sore here and there, especially
since i have a lot of stressors right now, but all is
goin well. Doc has given me permission to go back to
work as of yesterday. I have been doing normal chores,
since about 4wks. Others hubby helped (laundry,
vacumming)
I definately needed help when i got home. I was
seriously sore. I would say the first week is good for
constant support, after that you can start to do the
"needed" things like getting up and down by yourself :) as
long as your careful. But everyone is different.
As
far as cravings, i dont have any actual cravings. I
have some "head wishing" like i wished i could have
something, but i know that i cant, and really dont have any
uncontrolled cravings :) its really amazing. The only thing i

like alot of is skim milk, LOL, if i could i would
drink it all the
time.

hugggggggggggggs

Kim

11. Neva Marjory Says:

Kim, Thanks for your great reply. I really like
to know what to expect. I didn’t think I would need
help the first week, but now I am prepared.
I
didn’t realize that I wouldn’t be able to drink milk any
more.
I did pick up Carnie Wilson’s book yesterday,
however I didn’t get to start it as I brought home our 6
month old grandson for the weekend, and now another
daughter is flying in for a few days so I am off to the
airport to get her.
Thanks
and Hugs to You
Tooo!
Sami

12. Aron Freeman Says:

Sami,
Who says you can’t drink milk anymore??
Lots of posties tolerate milk fine. I am not one of
them (boo whoo) but things that you will be able to
tolerate will be as individual as your DNA!

Ice

13. Neva Marjory Says:

Sami

I hope i did not give you the
impression that you cannot drink milk :) I love it and drink
it every day. However, i cannot drink anything but
nonfat or skim. The others taste well, they taste like
they are goin bad or old or something. Probably the
fat in the milk.

hugggggggggs

Kim

14. Aron Freeman Says:

ALL milk taste to me like it has a half of bag of sugar added to the gallon now.
Weird.

Ice

15. Neva Marjory Says:

Kim’
Thanks for the info. I did think that you meant that we could no longer
drink milk. I now drink fat free, so maybe it will be the same.
Sami

16. Neva Marjory Says:

Ice;
Posties… I like the sound of that.
Sami
