Back Home Now

Saturday, October 30th, 2004

Hello,
I had my surgery on 3/1/02.weighed in at 304 The surgery went really
well. I received a unit of blood on day 4. I wonder if this had
anything to do with starting my period right after surgery.
I came home on 3/6. I still have a J-tube incase I get to nauseated
to drink my fluids. No problem yet. I am on a regular diet(what ever
is tolerated). I like soft foods best. I got a cold and went to the
Dr’s 3/8. I weighed 293. yeah!
The pain can be pretty significant at times. I am also adjusting to
eating such small amounts. It can be hard, because the food still
tasted so good.
Otherwise, I am doing really well. I thank everyone for their
support and prayers.

10 days and counting

Wednesday, October 27th, 2004

Hello Everyone,
As you may have read, I’m
schedualed for surgery March 1st. This has been a
challenging journey thus far. Recently, I was in an auto
accident. My car is in the shop. It is supposed to be done
by Feb. 27th. So much to do.
I am also really
concerned for my children. My mother, who is on 4 liters of
oxygen, is the only adult in the family not working. I
have a 10 yr.old and a 3 yr.old. My 13 yr.old nephew
will come to stay with her while I am in the hospital.
I have spoke with church members about bringing
food in for lunch.
The real kicker came today. I
have been on temporary total disability due to a work
injury for the last 16 months. My Dr. says that I need
to lose the weight for my back to heal. Worker’s
comp. does not want to cover it. Today they dealt a

eating alot

Wednesday, October 27th, 2004

Hi all, I am RNY post op about 5 months. Last
week (a first since the op), it seemed my appetite was
ravenous and I couldn’t eat enough. This week, I am not
hungry at all, no appetite really. Nothing is different
in my life than usual, so I would say it’s not
"stress eating" or "not eating because I am stressed."
Any advice-would like to hear from any one that has
had this happened???

14 days til surgery

Monday, October 25th, 2004

Hi Ya’all,
I am very excited and nervous. The
surgery date is getting closer. I was wondering what some
good sources of protein are, other than shakes. Dr.’s
office says that I will be on a regular diet when I
leave the hospital. :) I figure cottage cheese, yogurt
and eggs are good.
Also, when can I start driving
again? What is the length of recovery time? How long
will I need help to do daily activities, ie. shopping
and housework? I am the primary care taker of my two
children. What can I do now to make it easier for those
around me?
Please, I need some advice. I appreciate
all the help I can get.

Dottie
Pre-op
