Oprah
Maybe she doesn’t get it. I sure would like to see her do a show on it though.
I know , that until I started researching it I always thought it was the easy
way out, but now I know better. It is SOOO not the easy way out. I tend to
think and feel that there are alot of people out there that still think this
way, but, oh well. So much more goes into this.

I have been searching the OPRAH web site to see if I could find the
story she did on Weight Loss and see if I could find anything about
WLS. NO luck. Does anyone when that showed aired? The one in which
she supposedly made a negative comment about WLS? Thanks

Who cares what Oprah says? Is she that important in people’s lives
that they hang on her every word?
If Oprah has a problem with WLS then that is her problem, not any of
ours. Until someone walks in our shoe’s they just don’t understand.
Was she overweight at one time? Yes she was. Did her obesity ever
reach the levels of morbid obesity that many of us are dealing with?
No it didn’t. Did the same diets that we have all tried work for her?
Apparently one of them did. I am glad for her, but as to her opinion
of WLS is just doesn’t count to me.

I saw the show probably in Jan or Feb. When I mentioned it to my mom after
viewing she said she had seen it, so it was a rerun. The subject was "what
it’s like living fat".
She simply said she did not advocate the procedure, and allowed
misinformation to aire. A friend of mine told me that she previously "bad
mouthed" the surgery.
I find it hard to believe how personally some people are taking the fact that
Oprah may not agree with something they may be doing. She is only an actress
and entertainer. I happen to be a fan of her show and watch frequently
(especially Tuesdays), but who cares what she thinks, she’s at the very least
uninformed about the procedure. The only reason I care is that people take
her far too seriously, and take what she, or her programs represent to heart,
and there is more to the story.
After that program someone who knew I was planning to have the surgery
actually called me to warn me that after the surgery people stink. I had to
explain that there are more than one type of surgery and that malabsorptive
procedures cause malodorous stools, and that during the period of weight loss
one may suffer from "bad" breath due to the high level of ketones in the
blood during fat and protein metabolism. After weight loss ceases, so does
the "bad" breath.
I wrote an e-mail to Oprah after viewing that program. I’m not even sure her
offices received it as I never received a note confirming receipt.
