Wt. loss before surgery

Rebecca,
I don’t know how my surgeon arrives at his magic number but I am
really glad that he requires you to,lose some weight. He says that
the weight loss makes the procedure easier for him to do, allows him
to make a smaller incision and reduces complications for the patient.
He generally requires patients to lose 10% of their body weight but
heavier people have to lose more. He does the open RNY with a band
around the bottom of the pouch to keep it from stretching out. Anyway
it only requires a 23 hour hospital stay and in 20 years of doing this
surgery he has never lost a patient. He did 141 procedures last year,
so I can’t argue with success. Anyway I have to lose so much because I
am really heavy. I was 508 when I went for my consult. I was 463
last Monday. My BMI is 80+. I am not proud of this but it is true.
He was very suprised when I went for my consult that I was still able
to work and do what little I was doing.

The diet he puts you on is called the 800 cal diet but by the time you
add in your litle snacks of pickles, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc. Oh yeah
and I forgot the small apple a day, Of course you take a multivitamin
and Vitamin C. too.

Well I guess I better get going. My hubby and the little guy just got
back from shopping and I need to go put the meat and stuff in the
freezer.
